Hi, I have prepared an up-to-date .src.rpm of boinc-client for Cauldron. You can find it here:

http://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/mageia/distrib/cauldron/SRPMS/core/release/boinc-client-7.0.28-1.mga3.src.rpm

You can build it using "rpmbuild --rebuild" and let me know if it works for you. If it does, we can consider putting it in updates_testing or backports_testing.

BTW, the URL to boinc is:

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/

You missed an "e".

Regards,

Comment 3 Peter D 2012-08-09 06:08:27 CEST
Sorry about the missing "e".

It compiles on 64 bit Mageia 1 after urpme-ing mesaglut3. I won't try to install it on that system because there is another versions of boinc running.

It compiles, installs and runs on 32 bit Mageia 2.

Tools -> Add project or account manager... does nothing obvious. Then after a longish wait There is a pop-up window that says,
  "BOINC Manager - Unexpected Exit
The BOINC client has exited unexpectedly 3 times within the last 2 minutes.
Would you like to restart it again?
  Help No Yes"

Clicking "Yes" does nothing obvious. I believe that it should prompt for a URL of the chosen project.

Sorry, I went straight to Advanced View, back in Simple View, and adding "boinc, boincmgr" to privoxy (I haven't used privoxy before) it displays, "Unable to connect to core client" and I can not enter text into the Projects box.
Comment 5 Peter D 2012-08-23 11:38:10 CEST
Fresh install of Mageia 2 32 bit plus updates - no privoxy this time.

Just tried boinc-client-7.0.33-1.mga3.src.rpm but could not add a project.

Please test boinc-client-7.0.28-1.mga2
Comment 7 Peter D 2012-10-11 10:46:11 CEST
It is running on Mageia 2 32 bit after;
1. going to MCC and setting boinc-client to start on-boot,
2. making the "password" file /var/lib/boinc/gui_rpc_auth.cfg
readable by an ordinary user (psd),
3. copying that file to my home directory, /home/psd,
4. THEN selecting BOINC manager from the Gnome menus.

No success simply selecting BOINC manager from the Gnome menus as user "psd", or typing "boincmgr" as psd in /home/psd. It gets stuck at "Unable to connect to core client".

Previously I have had a separate X session with "boinc" as an ordinary user on virtual terminal 8.

I have gotten the BOINC client to work under both 32 and 64 bit MGA2. My only suggestion would be that it might be worth putting up a popup at install to warn users that to connect to the client they need to add the appropriate users to group BOINC. I'm currently running SETI@home and Rosetta@home with no problems.

Comment 9 Manuel Hiebel 2013-11-22 22:50:37 CET
Mageia 2 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on ''22 November''. Mageia 2 is no
longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or
bug fix updates. As a result and as this bug is fixed in mga3 we are closing it.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
