Description of problem:

claws-mail always starts in offline mode, and claims that the network manager reports that the network is down.

This seems to have been reported as a bug elsewhere, e.g.:

I first noticed it about a week ago.  The workaround is simple enough: just click the connection icon. But it wasn't that way before.

OOPS! I am trying to read mail from /var/spool/mail/doug.  In that case, the network shouldn't come into it.  That seems to confirm that claws-mail is the cause.

I don't know why, but this bug seems to have gone away in the last couple of days or so.
