Description of problem: Only old menu is avaible Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): mageia-beta1-x86_64 How reproducible: Alway Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install 2. See old menu Reproducible: Steps to Reproduce:
Personally, I prefer the classic menu style. FWIW, the last time the question was raised in a thread in cooker ML, the votes were in favour of the classic style being the default, that's counting votes from the cooker thread and a poll that was created in the mdv forum. So without a similar poll, I don't think the style should be switched.

i'm agree with ahmad, we need a pool to get a majority for that point. (Changing the bug report as enhancement)
Severity: normal => enhancement
My vote would go for kickoff - although visually worse than the classic menu, it has at least three major advantages for newcomers:- 1. Applications are listed by what they do rather than by name. 2. The search feature (for when you know the application name) 3. The ability to drag/drop applications to the desktop/folder view. Barry

The search feature (for when you know the application name) If use the menu when I don't want to type, if I have to type, I'd use krunner directly :) And the main annoyance for me with kick-off is the too-many-clicks-forward-and-back, with the classic menu, I just hover wit the mouse... > 3. I think that there should be a poll, maybe we can use epoll for that?, or just a poll in the forum (but note that the traffic in the forum is still a bit low).
(In reply to comment #4) > You can set the classic menu to do that too, I think. Yes - thanks for pointing that out - it's not something a newcomer is likely to find though, I never looked for it before and probably never would have without your comment! > If use the menu when I don't want to type, if I have to type, I'd use krunner > directly :) Again - that's fine if you know how to use it. Kickoff does have an incremental search, so to run clementine would only need "cle" which also confirms that it's actually insalled. > And the main annoyance for me with kick-off is the > too-many-clicks-forward-and-back, with the classic menu, I just hover wit the > mouse... Good point - never really noticed that in the classic. > errr, I can drag and drop icons from the classic menu to the desktop whether > the Layout is set to Desktop or Folder View. Is that new? - I'm sure that didn't work before - live and learn! I find that I prefer the classic, but always end up switching to kickoff for the search feature. Applications are often in illogical sections and it's often quicker to type the first few characters of the name. I bet a poll would be a close call! Barry
OK - don't tell me, I just found the incremental search in krunner ! I change my vote ! Classic :-) Bugs are a good way to find out how things work :-/

pinging. because nothing happened to this report since more than 3 months ago, and it still has the status NEW or REOPENED @ John Balcaen Please set status to ASSIGNED if you think this bug was assigned correctly. If for work flow reasons you can't do that, then please put OK on the whiteboard instead. Of course, RESOLVED-FIXED is ok, too :) (When reading the description of the bug, I think it got solved in cauldron, I didn't read the rest, though)

My vote goes for classic as well.. One way for Mageia to differ. Those who want, can change to kickoff but i think classic as default is a better option.

Well since indeed it's a way to : - have something different in mageia (now only mageia is using a simple menu) - since even people who suggested to switch to kickoff menu switch back to classical menu - since it's quite easy to switch from classical to kickoff menu - and that i personally prefer the classical menu ( yeah funny maintainer hat here :p ) I'm closing it as wontfix. Of course if artwork-team (which is in charge of our design), or concil prefer to switch to a similar setup as others distributions we can switch it.
