gimp should not depend on gimp-help-de, first because I don't read german, and secondly because I should be free to use gimp without having to install 40 Mb of documentation I will never read. The reverse relationship would make more sense.
can you add the output of urpmi --debug gimp (with uninstalling it before)?
The output of "urpmi --debug gimp" is: getting exclusive lock on rpm search_packages: found gimp-2.8.0-2.mga3.i586 matching gimp found package(s): gimp-2.8.0-2.mga3.i586 opening rpmdb (root=, write=) selecting gimp-2.8.0-2.mga3.i586 set_rejected: gimp-2.8.0-1.mga2.i586 requested gimp-help suggested by gimp-2.8.0-2.mga3.i586 Afin de satisfaire les dépendances de « gimp-help », un des paquetages suivants est nécessaire : 1- gimp-help-de-2.8.0-3.mga3.noarch : German translation of Gimp2 help (à installer) 2- gimp-help-fr-2.8.0-3.mga3.noarch : French translation of Gimp2 help (à installer) 3- gimp-help-en-2.8.0-3.mga3.noarch : English translation of Gimp2 help (à installer) Que choisissez-vous ? (1-3) But MageiaUpdate only offers gimp-help-de-2.8.0-3.mga3.noarch, not the other ones. Anyway, I would like to be able to install none of them.

gimp-help is just a suggests, not requires. You could use following command when installing gimp: urpmi gimp --no-suggests

It's not invalid. MageiaUpdate refuses to install Gimp if you don't install a help package.

Firstly, MageiaUpdate Applet is not a program used to updating cauldron. It is used to installing program updates. Secondly, this is a feature of rpm suggests. By default, suggested packages will be installed, but you can just delete them without any difficulties. If you still think it is a bug need to be fixed, please reassign this bug to package "urpmi".

(In reply to comment #5) > Secondly, this is a feature of rpm suggests. By default, suggested packages > will be installed, but you can just delete them without any difficulties. I'm fine with suggested packages to be selected by default, but when I unselect them, it shouldn't try to install them anyway. Said differently: I get no error when I unselect gimp-help-de, but when I click "Update" with gimp being the single selected package, I can see that gimp-help-de has been installed anyway, ignoring the fact that I didn't want it. This is a bug. Also, why suggesting gimp-help-de only, and not other languages?
