Description of problem: I found a possible alternative to XXE to use in the future. Sourcecode for Serna can be obtained by doing the following:

Install hg a.k.a mercurial.
Run following in Terminal:

hg clone http://bitbucket.org/syntext/serna-free
Then cd to serna-free

Before you move one any further you have to do the following: 

Open Firefox
Go to http://downloads.syntext.com/serna-free-3rd/
Use urpmi to install thoose dependancies.
Download & build the other possible missing deps.

Now read what's in the README.txt

It seems indeed to be dead software. The bitbucket repo has no source anymore.

Status: NEW => RESOLVED
Resolution: (none) => OLD

Closing this report as WONTFIX since the source can't be found at the moment.
If someone were to find it in the future then please feel free to reopen this with a new link.
