Description Parsifal Herzog 2012-06-03 11:01:06 CEST
Description of problem:

When adding a tag or making other metadata changes, Digikam updates its database, but is unable to write the metadata to the files. It seems to use the Batch Queue Manager to do this in the background, but the BQM makes no progress. A message appears "Writing Metadata to files", with a progress bar that never advances. The message also cannot be cancelleld, and when quitting Digikam, a "Finishing Tasks" box appears that never finishes, although you can cancel that box and Digikam will quit.

A search on bugs.kde.org: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=295263
finds an apparent fix for this. Also, https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5197 may be the same bug, but failed image rotation is the symptom

I am reporting as a new bug because bug 5197 asks for a report for Mageia 2, and failure to write metadata is much more serious problem - without metadata being written to files, I would have to abandon Digikam.

I am asking that the upstream fix be released for Mageis 2 ASAP.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

digikam-2.6.0-0.rc.6.mga2

How reproducible:

Always happens.

Apply a tag or change some other metadata in one or more images, while Digikam is configured to write metadata to files.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. In Settings/Configure Digkam, under "Metadata" check "Image Tags" in the "Write this Information to the Metadata" section. Close the dialog
2. Select an image, and apply a tag to it, using the right side Captions/Tags sidebar.
3.The tag will be applied, but within a second or two, the "Writing Metadata to files" message will pop up, and will not progress or be cancellable.

Is this bug still valid with the final version (2.6.0) actually available in the
Testing repository? Could you test it, please?

I have tested, and it seems this bug is fixed in Digicam 2.6.0, Thank you.
Also bug 5197 is fixed.

Angelo,

Can you please assign this bug to QA, and write a proposed advisory (include that the update fixes bug 6304 and bug 5197)

Thanks :)

Already get an agreement with QA team how to manage this update. It's WIP :)
I will change the bug status as soon as i've tested digikam (I'm not the one who submitted it...)
