Bad idea, the distro will get "torvalded" like openSUSE. Sorry if I missed any security options that disabled this but I don't think it's a good thing to have on by default even if it can be disabled, seems too much like a corporate desktop feature
What DE do you use? How did you start that DE?

Over 5 months later, still no reply, so closing as OLD @ Joe Maybe it helps if you give those drives mount points while installing Mageia from the DVD after choosing either A) "custom disk partitioning" or B) "use existing partitions in this screen http://doc.mageia.org/installer/2/en/content/doPartitionDisks.html you can then add mount points for them here: for A): http://doc.mageia.org/installer/2/en/content/diskdrake.html or for B): http://doc.mageia.org/installer/2/en/content/ask_mntpoint_s.html They'll then be mounted every time you boot Mageia. Besides, *after* installing Mageia you can still add mount points by starting MCC (Mageia Control Center) and then choosing: Local disks --> Manage disk partitions http://docteam.mageia.nl/en/MCC/content/mcc-localdisks.html Feel free to reopen this bug and to further explain the problem if you think I'm wrong to close it.
