Theme name: oxygen-gtk Kernel version = 3.3.6-desktop-2.mga2 Distribution=Mageia release 2 (Official) for x86_64 CPU=Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz _______________________________________________________________________________ Cannot set up scanner even though it sees it at Port: libusb:007:002 through manual install. Auto mode doesn't work either. It says: " not in scanner base". It is a Samsung CLX-3175 laser Printer/Scanner. The printer part works but not the scanner. I have tried setting it up with the Samsung UnifiedLinuxDriver but fails. Also tried setting up through cups. In addition plugging in my Logitech 910 webcam, it will be picked up as a scanning device.

Try 'modprobe usblp' as root. It was blacklisted at boot time as it can conflict with newer versions of cups but I find it's still needed by my old Brother multifunction for the scanner. If it works for you then you can remove the line from /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-cups-common.conf I think it is actually the only line in that file, in which case you could just delete it. Check that it doesn't interfere with the printer function before you do delete that file though. For me it is needed for scanning but stops the printer from working.
I have tried 'modprobe usblp' but no response. I need this module ? I have also view the file blacklist-cups-common.conf. It content : blacklist usblp Is it normal ? (sorry for my poor english ...)

modprobe usblp will give no response if it worked ok, it loads the usblp kernel module. Adding kernel modules in the blacklist files there prevent them being automatically loaded at boot. As I said in comment 3 this one is there because it can interfere with cups (the printer stuff). You might find it is needed by your scanner driver to function properly.
I have uncomment blacklist usbpl in the file blacklist-cups-common.conf. And now my scanner is recognised. All work properly. Thank you very much
Hum, hum the scanner is ok but not the printer as you have said. If i blacklist the udlp module the printer is ok ...

This message is a reminder that Mageia 2 is nearing its end of life. Approximately one month from now Mageia will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Mageia 2. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX (EOL) if it remains open with a Mageia 'version' of '2'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Mageia version prior to Mageia 2's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Mageia 2 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. -- The Mageia Bugsquad
