Description Stephen Reid 2012-05-23 16:44:51 CEST
Description of problem:
Blender installs fine and is of use, but the Blender Cycles render engine, which has been part of Blender for a few releases now, is nowhere to be found for use in the compiled package here. I read up about this a bit and I think maybe some Cycles flags for compiling cycles with blender were not selected. Tho I cannot be sure.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
2.63a

How reproducible:
Very. Just start up Blender and the Cycles render engine is missing. :)

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Blender
2. Click "Blender Render" drop down at the top middle roughly of the program.
3. Blender Render and Blender Game show up. Blender Cycles should be here also. VERY important new feature of blender. Unbiased realistic rendering!!!!

I'm working on it. This is due to missing openimageio package.

I have since moved linux distro and cannot test this, so if anyone else can feel free! I will be back to Mageia when I upgrade my computer hardware. :)

Comment 5 Daniel Calviño Sánchez 2012-06-16 02:22:56 CEST
I have installed blender-2.63a-1.1.mga2 from Core/Testing and made a quick test. Apparently, it works.

In Blender, I set the render to "Cycles render". Then, I set the "Viewport shading" to "Rendered". If the default cube was moved or its color was changed the viewport rendered the changes in "real time", so I would say that it works.

Note, however, that I have never used Cycles before, but I have read that the rendering right in the viewport is one of its features (and that the default Blender render can not do that).

Thanks!

I can confirm that if what Daniel said is true then Blender Cycles is working now. :) Sorry I couldn't test it myself as I started the bug!

Tested Blender from Core/Testing on Mageia 2 i586 and x86_64. The cycles rendering engine runs smooth and found no problems.

Tested Ok on Mageia 2 i586 and x86_64.
