After my update from mdv 2010.1 x86_64 pwp to mageia 1 alpha 2, the system size has grown immense mdv 2010.1 powerpack was 5386MB before upgrade mga 1 alpha 2 was 6246MB after upgrade and update at 2011-03-29 a difference of almost 1GB where does it come from: /bin: 7.0MB vs 6.7MB /boot: 12MB vs 64MB : 52MB /dev: 476KB vs 1.8MB /home: 578MB vs 799MB : 189MB ( from ~/.local/share/akonadi ) /lib: 61MB vs 193MB : 132MB /lib64: 19MB vs 23MB : 4MB /root: 1.9MB vs 3.0MB /sbin: 15MB vs 16MB /usr: 4282MB vs 4438MB : 156MB /var: 107MB vs 142MB : 35MB installed packages: 2346 vs 2521 (in upgrade mdv to mga) (keeping in mind that the mga still has some mdv packages) /boot and /lib/modules because of 3 extra kernels, (no cleaning older kernels?) /home was due to .local/share/akonadi not being present in mdv, while it's there in mga (even though unused, afaik) and starts with 150MB db. i guess in /usr it's due to sometimes extra packages and package upgrades looking at this, that's 550MB, so where has the other 400MB gone to? so, perhaps 3 points: - no cleaning older kernels? - more packages installed? - 400MB that seems untracable? and when you do urpme --auto-orphans ? (if still possible :) )
this is a quite old bug report, but i think it's still true now. But indeed, i don't have this system anymore... the big point here is that it's only an upgrade, ie: there aren't any "new" packages? just the mga version versus the mdv ones? that was the whole point of the bug report, i believe. I guess it should be retested, but tbh, i don't want to reinstall mdv just for this, sorry...
misc just said on IRC that support to upgrade from Mdv to Mga 2 is not planned. That means that there is no point in keeping this report open. (also because Mga 1 installer won't get any fixes, of course) Closing as old
