Hello,

Cauldron is a good job :)

I had to add "acpi=off noacpi xmodule=nv" as boot option to try the live cd.
Without the options, the boot never completes, and comp freezes.

laptop Packard Bell model MGP00, video = nvidia 8600M gs, proc = intel core2 duo T5670

Tested from a USB stick

Mageia-2-rc-LiveCD-KDE4-Europe1-Americas-i586-CD.iso

to be sure, does it works without the acpi=off noacpi ?
or without xmodule=nv ?
Comment 3 Kao Bang 2012-05-10 21:04:34 CEST
I tried with acpi=off noacpi without xmodule=nv and its works.
I tried xmodule=nv or xmodule=nouveau without acpi=off no acpi and it fails.

I also have to unplug a bluetooth usb key before boot time, I can plug it when Kde is running though. Should I make a new bug report?
btusb : Broadcom Corp|Broadcom Bluetooth 3.0 Device [Wireless|Radio Frequency|Bluetooth] (vendor:0a5c device:2198)

The laptop is running Mageia 1 fine, it's just impossible to go suspend-to-ram sometimes, not every times.

ok so it's not a duplicate, sorry

tmb, maybe you have an idea ?

I also have to add acpi=off noacpi to boot the livecd
ROSA.2012.MARATHON.EE.i586.iso

Hi,

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

Thanks :)

Cheers,
marja

Hello,

Sure, it's still the same after the release.

I have tried with the following linux distros and it did not work without the acpi=off noacpi kernel options:
Mageia-2-LiveCD-KDE4-Europe1-Americas-x86_64-CD.iso
Fedora-16-i686-Live-Desktop.iso
linuxmint-13-cinnamon-dvd-32bit.iso
linuxmint-13-mate-dvd-32bit.iso
ubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386.iso (not a hybrid iso, done with LinuxLive USB Creator)
ROSA.2012.MARATHON.EE.i586.iso

It works with:
mageia-livecd-1-KDE4-europe1-americas-cdrom-i586.iso
openSUSE-12.1-KDE-LiveCD-i686.iso
linuxmint-12-lxde-cd-32bit.iso

For the time being, I will stick with Mageia 1.

Hope it can help, regards

I think it's an upstream bug /regression of the kernel

This message is a reminder that Mageia 2 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately one month from now Mageia will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Mageia 2. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX (EOL) if it remains open with a Mageia 'version' of '2'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Mageia version prior to Mageia 2's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Mageia 2 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.

Mageia 2 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on ''22 November''. Mageia 2 is no
longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or
bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Mageia
please feel free to click on "Version" change it against that version of Mageia
and reopen this bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
