Description Morgan Leijström 2012-05-08 14:24:17 CEST
Just to see it working, booted boot.iso and selected to update installed system.

It responded: "Oops no root partition"
Pressing the only button [OK] immediately presents the same screen again.

The system have a small /boot, then / /home and swap in a unencrypted LVM.

Suggestion:
It should write that the user may try customised partition and there set up LVM with / and other partitions like the real system is, NOT formattign anything, and the system could then upgrade. (I managed sometjhing like that for a half failed install, but it need be tested more...)

(Even better if it could get info somewhere from inside /boot and do it itself)

Probably a duplicate of bug #5730

Ahh quite possibly. Can you try with the latest RC ISO when they are publicly available to see if you can reproduce?
Comment 3 Morgan Leijström 2012-05-09 11:11:59 CEST
I doubt i have bandwidth budget for a DVD - i use to nearly max my monthly budget despite urpmi-proxy and http proxy...

The used boot.iso i fetched a day before this bug, and i purged stage2 from uprmi-proxy rigth before testing, so it was curent.

Why the DVD? Would not an updated stage2 work? When is it due?
Comment 4 Colin Guthrie 2012-05-09 11:40:55 CEST
Yeah sorry, just a figure of speech mainly. Boot iso and updated stage2 should be fine.

Tho' the stage2 that should have fixed this was a few days ago... so depending on when you did the install you maybe had the current one already :s As you said it was on the 7th (day before the report), I think that change was live then... lemme check...

Well technically this change:
http://svnweb.mageia.org/soft?view=revision&revision=4410

But I can't remember when an updated stage2 was pushed... according to the ML it was pushed on the 6th...

Timing is close but it looks like you should have had the latest stage2.

If you can easily retest, please do, but otherwise I'll try and recreate the conditions and do my own test.

Preliminary I try tomorrow.
And try to remember to purge the proxy first ;)

Ah, it depends on if root and home is under /dev/mapper or just under /dev !

See bug Bug 5811, then come back here ;

On that system with root as /dev/mapper/vg--mga-root i get this Ops no root partition.

But on the cloned system then fixed so root is /dev/vg-mga/root it updates OK.

Used stage2 is dated 2012-05-06 11:00. I see there i s new one now.

Hi,

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

Thanks :)

Cheers,
marja
