Description Chris Denice 2012-05-04 02:14:01 CEST
Description of problem:

1) pm-hibernate fails on kernel-3.3.4-tmb-laptop the system freezes at 0% save at the time the message "press backspace to abort (previous built were working fine, but with previous tmb-kernel too...)

2) it works apparently fine with the current kernel-desktop 3.3.4-desktop-1, however it prevents the system to shut down after resuming if the X server is not restarted.

--

To reproduce issue 1, try to hibernate from tmb-laptop kernel.

To reproduce issue 2, I hibernate the laptop before login in, i.e. once the kdm login screen is displayed. After resuming, the kdm login screen is back again, I click on the power button and ask for shutdown or reboot, the system freezes.
If once the kdm screen resumed, I log in, and log out, and press the shutdown button, it works fine though.

Attached lscpidrake.

Cheers,
Chris.

Hi,

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

Thanks :)

Cheers,
marja

Yes:

1) issue 1 still *valid* with kernel-tmb-laptop 3.3.6-tmb-laptop-2.mga2

2) issue 2 is *solved* with kernel-desktop 3.3.6-desktop-2.mga2

Cheers,
Chris.

Pinging this and adding some extra info

I found the current kernel-tmb-laptop works on the laptop in bug 6077 (noacpi, xdriver=vesa or kernel-linus one) and runs a bit cooler too.

Hibernate complains of missing /dev/fb so no nice background while hibernating and sits at 0% when trying to create the image. Backspace doesn't cancel as it claims it should but REISUB works to reboot the machine.

I did some reading on tuxonice and it compresses the image with lzo. I found that after modprobing lzo hibernate with tuxonice works as expected.

I'm hoping that adding lzo to /etc/modules will load it at boot time.

Should these kernels with tuxonice automatically do this, or perhaps disable lzo compression?

Hmm can't reproduce this, I'll try to look into it more tomorrow to make sure I've not messed something up.
