Description of problem: My wife is transitioning to Mageia from Mandriva and does NOT want KDE4 or Gnome3. So I moved her to Mageia 1 last month with Xfce 4.8, which is Gnome2-like and she "loves it" for the most part. However, at random times she will click on an icon on the desktop to open something and the desktop crashes. I installed guake so she can have a quick drop-down menu to restart the desktop using 'xfdesktop &' from the command line. However, this is a sub-optimal work around to the problem. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): xfdesktop 4.8.1-2 How reproducible: This is random. There is no guaranteed way to force the crash. It has happened only twice in the last three days (1 May 2012 and 3 May 2012) with the system up and running the whole time. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Run Xfce4 exclusively. 2. Keep launching items from the desktop icons. 3. Eventually xfdesktop will crash. Note that Xfce 4.10 was JUST RELEASED. So this may be an upstream bug that is already fixed in Xfce 4.10. It would be nice if Mageia would get backports going soon and put Xfce 4.10 on the list to be backported from Cauldron to Mageia 2 as it is unlikely to get into Mageia 2 at this point.

My testing with xfdesktop under Mageia 2 using xfdesktop-4.9.0-1.1.mga2 does not show this problem. However, I do not use Xfce regularly. My normal "desktop" is fluxbox, so my testing of Xfce is not exhaustive. > @ the reporter of this bug > > If you didn't reply yet to a request for more information, please do so within > two weeks from now. I have never seen a request for information on this bug. > Thanks all :-D You're welcome.
This message is a reminder that Mageia 1 is nearing its end of life. In approximately 25 days from now, Mageia will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Mageia 1. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX (EOL) if it remains open with a Mageia 'version' of '1'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Mageia version prior to Mageia 1's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Mageia 1 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. -- Mageia Bugsquad
