Description Marja Van Waes 2012-04-27 13:02:30 CEST
choosePackages.html#choose-graphical-env
 and
choosePackages.html#choosePackagesGroups

often open at the botom of the page where those segments are in, instead of at the correct segment.

When that happens, the choosePackages.html#choose-graphical-env segment isn't visible at all when help button is clicked.

Of choosePackages.html#choosePackagesGroups the title can't be seen when this happens.

Now opening a bug report, because this issue hit Dick Gevers, too

You told me it was a drakx-installer-help change that results in that bug...

In the beginning I thought this happened because of a mistake in the help files, but already last time that I wrote you about this issue, I didn't think that anymore.

Sorry if I wasn't clear.

If the bug were in drakx-installer-help, it would be there all the time, it wouldn't happen that you install from DVD, hit the bug, install from the same DVD again, don't hit it, install again, hit it again.

Another one..

Summary of installation: Services --> Help: it displays the bottom part of the help screen instead of the top part.
Comment 4 Marja Van Waes 2012-04-27 17:04:46 CEST
To be very precise: it was with the beta 3 DVD that I saw it doesn't happen all the time. Dick and Claire are testing pre 2 rc

Just checked, but this segment can't be displayed in a different way, because there is not enough text between this segment and the bottom of the page

Network install this afternoon (cauldron, i586, boot.iso of yesterday)

It started well, choosePackages.html#choose-graphical-env opened at the correct section, but after that choosePackages.html#choosePackagesGroups didn't
Also:
misc-params.html#drakxid-configureTimezoneGMT couldn't be seen at all
misc-params.html#drakxid-selectCountry only the last lines are visible

What amazed me, was that after opening misc-params.html in the Summary-overview screen, that I could not only go to setupBootloaderBeginner.html (as I expected, because that link and the link to setupX.html in the misc-params page already worked before), but that from there I could click on the link go to the section
setupBootloaderExpert.html#addingGRUB2system, see the page open at the correct section, scroll down, click the link to
setupBootloaderBeginner.html#usingExistingBootloader, see that page open at the correct section, scroll up, click the link to
setupBootloaderExpert.html#addingGRUB2system, see it open at the correct section again, scroll down, click the link to
setupBootloaderBeginner.html#usingExistingBootloader, see it open at the correct section, scroll up .....etc. and that that kept working, no matter how often I switched back and forth between those two pages.

Installing Mandriva 2010.1 PP now.

The same error occurs: the help for the desktop selection screen and for choose Packages Groups, opens at the bottom instead of at the correct section.

So this seems an error we inherited.

I haven't reached the summary step, yet.
Comment 8 Marja Van Waes 2012-05-15 13:59:39 CEST
Installing Mdv 2010.1 PP :

In the summary step:

The help for security opens at the bottom of misc-params, where you see the help for the Services.

The help for services, opens at the top of misc-params, instead of at the bottom where that help section is.

So it is a mess, there, too.

Hi,

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

Thanks :)

Cheers,
marja

Thanks, Dick, there'll be more of those bugs ;)

Yes, the bug is still valid, but we made a workaround by putting links at the bottom of the relevant help pages to the needed sections, in the same way as is done here:

http://doc.mageia.org/content/choosePackages.html#choosePackagesLinks
http://doc.mageia.org/content/misc-params.html#misc-paramsLinks

I hope to remember not to remove those links in the online help (where it is not needed) now that I linked this report to them :)

Nobody complained about this issue since we made the workaround (the above links aren't good any more, so giving the new ones):
http://doc.mageia.org/installer/2/en/content/choosePackages.html#choosePackagesLinks
http://doc.mageia.org/installer/2/en/content/misc-params.html#misc-paramsLinks

So lowering priority and severity

Priority: Normal => Low
CC: (none) => doc-bugs
Whiteboard: (none) => (MGA2)
Severity: normal => enhancement

Comment 14 Marja Van Waes 2013-01-04 17:40:37 CET
fixed in drakx-installer-stage2-15.16-1.mga3

(for the translations the English help text will open here. The translated files are now in SVN/soft/ and will be included next time drakx-installer-help is packaged)

Status: NEW => RESOLVED
Resolution: (none) => FIXED

We (docteam) might involuntarily be working on reviving this bug, so commenting so that all will see what we risk.

> http://doc.mageia.org/installer/2/en/content/choosePackages.

> paramsLinks

Before Mageia 3 was released, we decided to move all the sections of a page that needed a link at the bottom of that page, to separate pages, thus http://doc.mageia.org/installer/2/en/content/choosePackages.html#choosePackagesGroups became http://doc.mageia.org/installer/3/en/content/choosePackageGroups.html

I do fear that going for merged pagesand reverting the above, the same problem with the help buttons will emerge again (like for http://docteam.mageia.org.uk/Mga7/en/installer/content/software.html#choosePackageGroups )

Here you can see the file names that we used to have:
http://gitweb.mageia.org/software/drakx-installer-help/tree/

Almost all of them are needed by the help buttons in installer, I think at least those:

acceptLicense.html
addUser.html
add_supplemental_media.html
ask_mntpoint_s.html
chooseDesktop.html
choosePackageGroups.html
choosePackagesTree.html
configureServices.html
configureTimezoneUTC.html
configureX_card_list.html
configureX_chooser.html
configureX_monitor.html
diskdrake.html
doPartitionDisks.html
exitInstall.html
firewall.html
formatPartitions.html
installUpdates.html
installer.html
media_selection.html
minimal-install.html
misc-params.html
securityLevel.html
selectCountry.html
selectInstallClass.html
selectKeyboard.html
selectLanguage.html
selectMouse.html
setupBootloader.html
setupBootloaderAddEntry.html
setupSCSI.html
soundConfig.html
takeOverHdConfirm.html

Hello Marja,

Thanks for being vigilant.

We have, I hope, given a solution to this. I created a Drakx-inline.xml with a copy of a previous Drakx.xml, and published en.zip in zipped/drakx-installer-help. This is still to do for other languages.
