Description Keith Refson 2012-04-25 08:54:29 CEST
An upgrade install from mga 1 to Mga 2 (from Cauldron mirrors 24/04/2012)
fails with the attached debug log error at package selection stage. There appears
to be a conflict with laptop-mode-tools, which then blocks kdebase4-workspace.

installed package pm-utils-1.4.1-3.mga1.x86_64 is conflicting with laptop-mode-tools-1.60-2.mga2.noarch*
[...]
selected kdebase4-workspace-4.8.2-5.mga2.x86_64 is conflicting because of unsatisfied pm-utils

You attachment is wrong ;)

Why is laptop-mode-tools in your update list ?

and btw: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_1_Errata#pm-utils_conflicts_with_laptop-mode-tools

(seems still valid I will copy it the errata of mga2)

For the record, can you copy the error message text or attach a snapshot?

Should we just drop l-m-t? I don't think I've had it installed for years...

The attachment is wrong due to a typo by me in
https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5528

It should be attachment 2099 [details]. What I think are the relevant lines ...
* selecting laptop-mode-tools-1.60-2.mga2.noarch
* set_rejected: laptop-mode-tools-1.57-2.mga1.noarch
* installed package pm-utils-1.4.1-3.mga1.x86_64 is conflicting with
laptop-mode-tools-1.60-2.mga2.noarch (Conflicts: laptop-mode-tools)
* set_rejected: pm-utils-1.4.1-3.mga1.x86_64
* installed upower-0.9.9-1.mga1.x86_64 is conflicting because of unsatisfied
pm-utils
* installed kdebase4-workspace-4.6.5-1.4.mga1.x86_64 is conflicting because of
unsatisfied pm-utils
* selected upower-0.9.15-1.mga2.x86_64 is conflicting because of unsatisfied
pm-utils
* promoting pm-utils-1.4.1-3.mga1.i586 because of conflict above
* selected kdebase4-workspace-4.8.2-5.mga2.x86_64 is conflicting because of
unsatisfied pm-utils
* promoting pm-utils-1.4.1-3.mga1.i586 because of conflict above
* no packages match pm-utils (it is either in skip.list or already rejected)

According to the errata, laptop-mode-tools should get removed, but
the above shows that it's pm-utils getting removed, causing a urpmi
cascade error.

Comment 6 Thierry Vignaud 2012-04-26 10:11:21 CEST
That's not what says the errata.
The errata only says they conficts.
Which they do. Explicitely.
What you want is for pm-utils to _obsolete_ laptop-utils

Comment 7 Colin Guthrie 2012-05-02 23:40:38 CEST
OK, so after discussions on ML and IRC, I've obsoleted the laptop-mode-tools instead of conflicting. This should solve the issue.
