Description of problem: These packages seem to have dissapeared from cauldron/core. They are part of the listed dependancies for quite a number of other packages as well as being themselves somewhat important!
see http://svnweb.mageia.org/packages/cauldron/kmod/current/SPECS/kmod.spec?revision=229352&view=markup We use now kmod instead of these packages. Are you sure it was a specific require on a package ?
yup, sound-scripts-0.62-1 is the place where I first picked it up. Some others for the first one are: basesystem-minimal, dracut-017-3, drakxtools-curses-14.3-1, initscripts-9.34-17, kernel-desktop-3.3.1-2, kernel-desktop586-3.3.1-2, kernel-linus-3.3.1-1, kernel-netbook-3.3.1-2, kernel-rt-3.2.14-0.rt23.1, kernel-server-3.3.1-2, kernel-tmb-desktop-3.3.1-1, kernel-tmb-desktop586-3.3.1-1, kernel-tmb-laptop-3.3.1-1, kernel-tmb-server-3.3.1-1, kernel-vserver-3.3.1-1, mkinitrd-6.0.93-28, xen-4.1.2-4. However the lib is not individually listed and I can't remember, or find in my logbook what package it was that 'complained' loudly about it, may have been part of gstreamer or clemantine. I'll have a re-read after lunch and see if i can decipher my notes from 'very-late' last night! Ok, see that K is for kernel, not kde, will give it a go and see if it works without problems. I'm not using KDE, Gnome, LDXE, or non-qt4 components when I can replace them with qt4 equivalents. I am planning on a qt designer desktop with qlwm or eggwm (when they get it debugged) as windowmanager and razorqt as desktop. thanks for the heads up, just hope it works on building still.
from cryptic notes (late-night-chicken-script) was looking at gstreamer apps at the time, doesn't mention which one though, sorry, just said it wouldn't work!
I really don't know so much about packaging but kmod provide module-init-tools, so it is not a problem. https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Packaging_for_beginners#Specific_jargon
just a note, after talking to shaf (a suse 12.1 maintainer) last night that a lot of wifi use the libs as a direct function call (lib to lib) and they don't list it as a dependancy 'as they expect it to be there'. I'll leave it for you to close if you consider it appropriate, i'll reopen if needed.
ok

sorry manuel, reopening just completed a rebuild of my last build that worked to a # prompt with mod-init-tools, but using last night's downloaded updates for replacement and updated packages ('quite' a few). Sorry, I should have mentioned this morning in comment5 I was doing it. It now won't even get as far as a # prompt, it's continually complaining about a missing libmodprobe.so.0 as well as other things until I abort. Having a look at the content of kmod and it's libs there is no mention of any links for /lib/libmodprobe.so, .so.0, .so.0.0.0 (?should there be) or a /bin/lsmod (although there is a sbin/lsmod so not sure if that matters) or sbin/modinfo.bin (?)

Hi, This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment. Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2. Thanks :) Cheers, marja

well for what do you need these libs ?
Mageia kernel, initrd for an offbeat (old-style modem) server calls for libmodprobe to identify it's modem ports to start with. Maybe I had just better build my own kernel and just use parts of mageia2 or give up instead of trying to replace the mageia 1 that works.
did my own packages and kernel, fixed my problem
