Description William Kenney 2012-04-11 19:13:03 CEST
It appears that the iceape packages have gone missing
in cauldron. All of them. They're gone from both the 32
and 64 bit repos. Is this by design or by mistake?
There's been work done on cauldron ( Mageia 2 ) Iceape
as reciently as 2012-02-24

https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3988

I'm particually fond of the Iceape Composer package.

If gone what is the expected replacement?

Hi William,

I'm afraid this is by design. See the discussion that took place on it at: https://www.mageia.org/pipermail/mageia-dev/2012-March/013553.html

I do agree that iceape / seamonkey is indeed a package we should want to ship as a distribution, but without a maintainer the risk of missing important security updates etc. are too big to confront our users with.

I'm considering to adopt this package, but as I don't really use it myself I'm not sure I'd be the appropiate person for this.

Setting your request to "new package request" for now.

Component: RPM Packages => New RPM package request
Summary: iceape has gone missing in the cauldron repos => iceape / seamonkey

Many thanks for your help.

I've grown to use the Composer part of
this. Been using this for a very long
time since Seamonkey and beyond. If
there's another alternative I'll
certainly support that.

Whatever you decide post it here and
I'll be happy with that.

Fixed in cauldron with iceape-2.11-1.mga3.

For mga2, an update candidate iceape-2.11-1.mga2 is in core/updates_testing .

then fallow the updates policy please: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Updates_policy
as a package that stay in testing is useless

Suggested normal advisory:

Iceape was not released in Mageia 2 due to problems updating it to the latest version, while security updates are only released in new versions. This update adds an up-to-date version to Mageia 2, providing an upgrade path for users of iceape on Mageia 1.

Updated Packages:
iceape-2.11-1.mga2
task-obsolete-2-20.1.mga2

from SRPMS:
iceape-2.11-1.mga2.src.rpm

Iceape seems to run fine on Mageia Linux 2 x86-64 - I was able to browse, search using Google (including their JS interface) and bookmark a page.

OK, I tried the composer now and created a rudimentary page and it seems to work fine.

Iceape (both browser and composer) ran fine in my Mageia Linux 2 i586 VM.
