Created attachment 1944 [details] screenshot For the last few days (since kernel 3.3.1-2 has been released, IIRC), the default boot no longer works. I attached a screenshot which shows the problem: if I select the first item "Boot Mageia 2", I simply get what is in the black area (I mixed both screenshots into a single one, for simplicity) and nothing more happens. If I select the 3rd item "desktop586 3.3.1-2.mga2", then it boots correctly. I checked, and /boot/vmlinuz correctly points to /boot/vmlinuz-3.3.1-2, so I don't see why it fails.
seen in mageia-discuss >>Apr 5 07:32:10 Cedar1 bootloader-config[12407]: ERROR: /boot/initrd.img is not >>a symbolic link >Yep, so your systems got hit by a bug in bootsplash package that got >fixed in 3.3.8-1.mga2 > >So if you recreated that symlink it should work ok after this...
If it got fixed in bootsplash-3.3.8-1.mga2, why didn't it recreate the missing symlink itself? Anyway, adding this symlink fixed the problem.
The cause of the problem got fixed. It didn't fix it on systems where the damage had already been done. That's generally what happens with cauldron.

Hi, This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment. Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2. Thanks :) Cheers, marja
