Description Curtis Hildebrand 2012-04-02 07:54:39 CEST
Description of problem:

When I play Amarok in "Random Tracks" mode or "Dynamic Playlist Mode" (these are the modes I frequently encounter this problem), the first song will play normally, but when it progresses to the next song, the sound stops. Amarok doesn't freeze up.

This does not happen when I have the Playlist Progression set to normal.
The track progression bar always shows "0:02".
If I double click the track in the playlist it will play as expected.
If I use my mouse and scroll in the track progression bar, the sound will start.
If I wait, the sound will come back about 3-5min later playing a different track (I haven't measured, but it seems consistent). It's as if it finished playing that track and started a new one with no sound and then all of a sudden it comes back on in the middle.

How reproducible:

When I'm in Random Mode, it doesn't happen after every track, but very often.
Comment 1 Curtis Hildebrand 2012-04-09 07:59:29 CEST
Found something consistent. Every song where it "stops" at 0:02 is an OGG file.

Summary: No sound from Amarok after progressing to a new song in random mode => Amarok stops playing an OGG file is next in the playlist

I think it's an upstream bug: like https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=268892 or https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=267336

Dave Hodgins thought this bug was maybe related to bug 3504, and the reporter there (tv) confirmed that he gets his gstreamer error in Rhythmbox when playing an OGG file

debug output from amarok when

Here's the output from 'amarok -d --nofork' when the sound stops as the playlist progresses from an MP3 to an OGG. As I wrote earlier, the track progression stops at 0:02.

If I wait about 3:30, the sound comes back on at that point in the OGG song like it was playing it all along.

Nothing stands out to me in the debug. I'll try Rhythmbox.
Comment 5 Curtis Hildebrand 2012-04-18 09:25:04 CEST
Well, It seems like I have the same as bug 3504. Rhythmbox gives the same results:
Add an MP3 and an OGG to the play queue
Play the MP3
The sound output stops when it transitions to the OGG.
Wait about 3-5 minutes
Sound comes back on (in my case, I had nothing else in the play queue and so it started playing the tracks of the selected album)

Thanks, closing as dupe then

Now that Amarok is working again, I still have this bug. But I'm reopening because bug 3504 is now working for me.

Can you re-test with latest version 2.7.1 of amarok in cauldron ?
