On the current KDE in Cauldron, the Now Playing widget has the text (including the Artist, Title, Album, and Time labels) over on the right side of the widget, and then the actual information is shown to the right of there, where there is no room, so you can't see what it says. Everything left if it is blank.

The default size of Now Playing widget is an upstream bug, that should be reported on the KDE Bugtracking System. Like all the widgets, it can be easily enlarged to show missing informations.

It's not the size that's the problem. It's where it's putting the text.

Created attachment 2001 [details] Now Playing widget on Mageia 2 with default Air desktop theme On left you should have a CDaudio icon.
I get no icons there even when something is playing, and it still shouldn't push it all the way over to the right like that. On Mageia 1, while playing something, an album cover art image does appear on the left for some songs, but it doesn't push the text as far over to the right as what is happening in Mageia 2.
Also, on Mageia 1, for songs for which it can't find an album art, the text moves all the way over to the left, as the Mageia 1 screenshot shows.
(In reply to comment #6) > I get no icons there even when something is playing, The default icon is probably missing because plasma-desktop-theme was missing on DVD before beta3. Installing plasma-desktop-theme will probably add the icon on the widget. I just tested nowplaying widget on Fedora 17 beta KDE Live, and it has exactly the same size and the same behaviour, so the size of the widget and where it's putting the text are upstream bugs. regards, Luc
Hi, This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment. Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2. Thanks :) Cheers, marja

do you have /usr/share/apps/plasma/plasmoids/nowplaying/contents/images/nocover.svgz ?
as told on irc, i am working on a patch to allow to disable artcover.
(In reply to comment #10) > do you have > /usr/share/apps/plasma/plasmoids/nowplaying/contents/images/nocover.svgz ? Sorry I forgot to answer that question last weekend. No, that exact file path does not exist in Mageia 2. In the plasma-desktoptheme-default package there is /usr/share/apps/desktoptheme/default/widgets/nowplaying/nocover.svgz, but I do not have that package installed. According to urpmq, that package is not required by anything.
(In reply to comment #11) > as told on irc, i am working on a patch to allow to disable artcover. I just rebuilt the package locally with your patch, and it fixes it. Thank you!

Looks like you forgot to add the patch in SVN :o(
no this is wanted, it is not finished, will add untranslated strings. Here we fixed the initial bug ( the icon not present ). I will lated ( next week ? ) work again on the patch and this will be part of a separate update.

This isn't actually fixed yet. What was cited in the advisory was related to this bug, but Nicolas hasn't commited his patch to this package yet (see Comment 16).

The patch no longer fixes the issue with 4.8.5.

I'm OK closing this as WONTFIX. I got used to the behavior on Mageia 2. On Mageia 3, the album cover part takes up even more room making it almost useless that way, but they've now included an option to not show the album cover, which fixes that. There are still some things that could be improved. The playback control icons are small. They used to be bigger. The playback progress bar doesn't have any handles anymore. There is no control over the font. There is very limited control over the metadata displayed (only artist and album are toggle-able, and the song name is the only other thing showed). It'd be really really nice to be able to show the year. Anyway, all of that is outside the scope of this bug report.
Closing then, thanks.
