Description of problem: Mageia 1 Alpha1 use coreutils from 8.8 release but the latest stable version is 8.10. Please upgrade it from 8.8 (2010-12-22) to 8.10 (2011-02-04) to fix bugs and have a more speed cp command. 8.10 changelog extract : "The cp feature makes copying sparse files much more efficient on several common file systems. It takes advantage of a feature that was introduced in linux-2.6.27. The improvement affects the default code path, so if you're looking for risk potential, this is it. It uses the feature if available, and otherwise resorts to using the old, less-efficient copying code." coreutils 8.10 changelog available at http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/coreutils-announce/2011-02/msg00000.html coreutils 8.9 changelog available at http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/coreutils-announce/2011-01/msg00000.html Sources: ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/coreutils/coreutils-8.10.tar.gz For better information, latest alsa release in several Linux Distribution : Fedora 15 rawhide use 8.10 OpenSuse 11.4 us 8.9 and Opensuse factory use 8.10 Debian unstable sid use 8.5 Ubuntu snapshot natty use 8.5 Mandriva cooker use 8.9 Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): coreutils-8.8-2.mga1 Reproducible: Steps to Reproduce:

coreutils is not upgraded from 8.8 to 8.10 in Mageia 1 Beta 1. Then now, is it for Mageia 2 release ?
@Thierry: Too late in the release cycle?

It will be done in Cauldron after Mageia 1 is released... There are still recent bugs showing up in coreutils, for example the new cp using FIEMAP can cause corrupted data on recent kernels, so its not a "simple and safe" upgrade. We want a very stable Mageia 1

(In reply to comment #3) > It will be done in Cauldron after Mageia 1 is released... OK, no problems. > There are still recent bugs showing up in coreutils, for example the new cp > using FIEMAP can cause corrupted data on recent kernels, so its not a "simple > and safe" upgrade. > > We want a very stable Mageia 1 Me too.
