Description Diego Bello 2012-03-25 18:54:45 CEST
Description of problem:
Wifi doesn't work in Mageia 2 beta 2. Using kernel 3.3.0 desktop 0.rc7 x86_64

I tried updating from Mageia 1 and also with a fresh install keeping only the /home partition.

Mageia wouldn't even see the lan until I installed the iwlwifi-agn-ucode package and rebooted once more.

Now I set up wifi parameters in drakconnect in text mode but i get an error:
Failed to create host name resolver: Invalid host name
run-parts: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/hostname.d/avahi exited with return code 1
Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; invalid argument.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Mageia 2 beta 2

How reproducible:
Install Mageia 2 beta 2

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install Mageia 2 beta 2
2. Set up wireless
3. Try to connect

I have the same problem in beta3, it won't connect to the network even tough it is listed.
Comment 5 Manuel Hiebel 2012-04-24 00:43:55 CEST
and can you _*attach*_ the output of dmesg and rpm -qa | grep iwl?

@ Diego

Please test with Mageia 2 rc
http://blog.mageia.org/en/2012/05/09/almost-there-download-mageia-2-rc-new-date-for-final-release/

Is the problem still there? If so, please reply to comment 6

Comment 8 Diego Bello 2012-05-10 04:18:41 CEST
I tried RC2 today. Still no wifi. It sees the networks but can't connect.

# rpm -qa | grep iwl
iwlwifi-agn-ucode-20120421-3.mga2.nonfree
iwlwifi-4965-ucode-228.61.2.24-5.mga2.nonfree
iwlwifi-3945-ucode-15.32.2.9-3.mga2.nonfree

When I tried beta3 with all the iwl packages installed, using a wired connection, wasnÍ't able to connect either.

The output of dmesg is here: http://pastebin.com/HEhwSRtq

Regards.

Comment 10 Diego Bello 2012-05-10 15:19:32 CEST
Btw, I had the same issue with one of the kernel updates in Mageia 1. Wifi would not connect. Unfortunately, I can't remember the version with problems.
Comment 11 Diego Bello 2012-05-24 03:29:48 CEST
I found the solution!

First, I tried the KDE live CD of Mageia 2 and it connected perfectly, but when I installed it on my laptop it didn't connect.

I googled the problem and the solution is to set this parameter:
bt_coex_active=0

Now I'm writing this from my laptop :)

Hi,

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

Thanks :)

Cheers,
marja

And again, this bug is present in Mageia 3 Beta 2.

I booted using the KDE Live DVD and the same thing happened: It sees wifi networks but can't connect until I set up the parameter, remode the module, reload it with modprobe and restart the network.

Where do you set this?

My laptop with this wifi card, and th wifi just stopped working a few months ago. I really don't know when or if an update broke it. I don't have wifi at home so I don't use wifi every month, even.

I had to resolve to a hack, a shellscript I made for a friend erlier this year.
After running the commands below, wifi works again, in case anyone else need this.

===
/sbin/rmmod -f iwlwifi
/sbin/rfkill unblock all
/sbin/modprobe iwlwifi
===
Comment 19 Diego Bello 2013-12-16 17:09:28 CET
I installed Mageia 4 beta 2 and the wifi card worked without problems.

I'll mark this as resolved.
