Description Palm Pre 2012-03-25 00:35:55 CET
Description of problem: I'm using Mageia 2 beta 2 free DVDs to install Mageia. Unfortunatelly, I can't connect to internet. For unknown reason, Network center configured with DHCP assigned static IP for a ethernet card.

# drakconnect doesn't work for a different reason.

just in case: this is ethernet card from # lspci -v

00:14.0 Bridge: nVidia Corporation MCP51 Ethernet Controller (rev a3)
        Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Presario V6133CL
Flags: bus master, 66MHz, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 20
        Memory at b0008000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4K]
        I/O ports at 30e0 [size=8]
Capabilities: [44] Power Management version 2
        Kernel driver in use: forcedeth
        Kernel modules: forcedeth

On the same box/laptop i have working Mageia 1 with just the same card description.

There is nothing in the attachment to indicate a static ip address.
What makes you think it is assigning one?

Most of the bugs like this I've seen so far have been due to
conflicts between the drakxnet tools and networkmanager, that
only seem to affect some hardware.

Try running...
systemctl disable networkmanager.service
systemctl stop networkmanager.service
systemctl restart network.service

I noticed static IP on Network icon.

# ifconfig gives me exact static ip address. Btw, it switches when I plug ethernet cable (see attachment).

The 192.168.0.177 is the dhcp assigned address
provided by the router, or whatever dhcp server is being used.

Given that it's getting an ip address, the interface is working.

I notice that you have PEERDNS=yes in the ifcfg file. Perhaps
the router isn't configured to provide a dns, or the isp's
name servers.

What's in /etc/resolv.conf?

Hi,

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

Thanks :)

Cheers,
marja
