Description Serge Moreau 2012-03-24 08:06:15 CET
I am unable to set a Epson USB Scanner.(perfection 2400 photo)
See the following message following xsane or xscanimage
[serge@Saturne ~]$ xscanimage
Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
[xscanimage] No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something
different, check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and
detected by sane-find-scanner (if appropriate). Please read
the documentation which came with this software (README, FAQ,
          manpages).
[serge@Saturne ~]$ sane-find-scanner
  # sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the
  # result is different from what you expected, first make sure your
  # scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.

  # No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that
  # you have loaded a kernel SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.

found USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0 [HP], product=0xc202 [Photosmart 8200 series])
at libusb:001:006
found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8 [EPSON], product=0x011b [EPSON Scanner]) at
libusb:001:007
I tried also skanlite and this one is still unable to detect the scanner.

I used MCC to detect scanner. (MCC, Harware, scanner)
The automatic detection failed. If I set the USB address manually (USB:001:007)
the scanner is detected as GT 9300 instead of perfection 2400 photo, but it
works.

Hi,

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

Thanks :)

Cheers,
marja

I'm experiencing a similar issue on Mageia 2 trying to use an epson scanner CX3650 (multifunction printer). I'm not anymore able to acquire images.

The scanner was working fine on Mageia 1.

I think bugs #5919 #5376 #6135 (maybe others) are somehow related.

Regards,
matteo

To get an Epson Perferfection 2480 Photo running in cauldron I had to copy the firmware Esfw52.bin to /usr/share/sane/snapscan/
Now the scanner works with xsane, but only as root.
Does your scanner need firmware as well?
Comment 9 Matteo Pasotti 2012-09-02 16:33:26 CEST
As far as I know it doesn't need a specific firmware (I never had to install a firmware).

The scanner has always worked with every user account.

Consider please that using Mageia Control Center the scanner is correctly detected but after the procedure it does not become available.

Comment 11 Manuel Hiebel 2013-10-22 12:19:57 CEST
This message is a reminder that Mageia 2 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately one month from now Mageia will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Mageia 2. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX (EOL) if it remains open with a Mageia 'version' of '2'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Mageia version prior to Mageia 2's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Mageia 2 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.

Mageia 2 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on ''22 November''. Mageia 2 is no
longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or
bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Mageia
please feel free to click on "Version" change it against that version of Mageia
and reopen this bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
