Description of problem: linksys WMP600N (RaLink RT2800 802.11n PCI chipset ) if i use drakroam to detect a wifi lan then no wifi lan is detected i think the free driver rt2800 for my wifi adapter is not good with my mandriva 2010.2 (kernel 3.1.6) the linksys adapter works : - almost well with the firmware rt2860.bin (default mandriva installation) (RT2860_Firmware_V26.zip) from ralink support - well with more recent rt2860sta (2010_07_16_RT2860_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.0.tar.bz2) from ralink support - the free driver rt2800pci has more functionalities than ralink driver but is not reliable some time it works sometime not addendum : it would be a good thing to have a tool as handy as the display manager according to install the free driver or the ralink driver or the ndis/windows driver. today we can only choose between linux or ndis/windows driver. it's not easy for a non technie to ask to system for not using kernel driver and using the ralink driver

How did you install ? From DVD? if so, this is expected as DVDs does not contain any nonfree stuff You need ralink-firmware from nonfree media

Hi, This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment. Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2. Thanks :) Cheers, marja
mageia 2 x86_64 pb still there we must install the packet "ralink-firmware" from nonfree source perhaps it would be a good thing to add an errata saying "for ralink wifi adapter add the packet ralink-firmware from nonfree source"
feel free to do so, anyway, drakconnect should offer it, so closing

drakx-net should offer it, we did some fixes about ralink firmwares before Mageia 2 final. Please attach the result of "lspcidrake -v" so that we can check if our fix was ok. Thanks

more accurate definition : during mageia installation the wifi connection is created as well as the ethernet connection (i have two adapters) but the ralink firmware is not installed.
Created attachment 2565 [details] lspcidrake -v result
This should be fixed in drakx-net 1.13 It will now install ralink-firmware for rt2800pci or rt2800usb drivers. Please reopen if still broken for you after this update. Also, it will not be installed from currenet DVD install, since the DVD images do not contain non-free drivers (at least up to Mageia 2). Though, network tools will offer to install the firmware when configuring the connection.
