Description Marja Van Waes 2012-03-18 20:08:38 CET
Starting this tracker, because too many people have told me they stopped using cauldron because their wireless doesn't work or won't set up a connection.

I hope some of them are duplicates (At first sight, some of them are, but I don't have enough time to really check).
Comment 1 Marja Van Waes 2012-03-18 20:16:07 CET
Setting this tracker to release blocker, because of the number of users affected

Hi all,

I don't have wifi with the latest Mageia kernel-desktop. It works fine with this vanilla kernel from kernel.org:

Linux lap.shlomifish.org 3.2.13 #1 SMP Sun Apr 1 20:47:06 IDT 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Here are my laptop's specifications:

<<<<
I also have an Acer Aspire 5738DZG laptop with the following specs:

    Intel Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4300 @ 2.10GHz. (x86-64).
    ATI Mobility Radeon⢠HD 4570 (r700)
    15.6×´ 3D HD LCD Screen.
    3 GB Memory
    320 GB Hard Disk Drive.
    âDVD Super Multi DL driveâ
    Acer Nplify⢠802.11b/g/n.

Lowering to highest priority.

Priority: release_blocker => High

Comment 5 Andrew 2012-05-07 06:08:13 CEST
Based on problems I've been experiencing, I think in most instances, the problem lies in a conflict between drakx-net and network manager. I HATE drakx-net, plus I have apps that depend on Network Manager to detect their connection... I wish I could just uninstall drakx-net but all the other drak tools seem to declare it as a dependency so I'm stuck with it. -_-;

Comment 6 Guillaume Rousse 2012-05-07 10:31:50 CEST
You can perfectly remove at least drakx-net-applet, if you don't use it. Or just add a ~/.net_applet file with this content to prevent its launch:
AUTOSTART=FALSE

Hi,

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

Thanks :)

Cheers,
marja

@marja:

Most of the old linked bugreports from 2011/2012/2013 should be seriously re-visited thouroughly. For those where workarounds are available, please close them and add the workaround to https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Setup_wireless_networking#known_issues_with_specific_drivers

FWIW, since I've switched to networkmanager instead of net_applet, no more issues with wireless so far, and for numerous other users on the forum. Documented here: https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=5782
I can review and update it for mga5 if it should be added to our official documentation.

This tracker should be updated, as the subject is quite generic and doesn't apply for the most parts anymore IMHO.

Thanks for the offer. CC'ing docteam for that

Well, there are only three bugs left in it, two of which might have gotten solved, so better to close this tracker
