Description of problem: I have GNOME installed and I was interested to see how iceWM looks like. Normally this should be possible with GDM ... I've tried several times, it always failed to log into a different session than GNOME. Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. log out of GNOME 2. select 'Not listed?' to get the window where you can pick the session 3. choose iceWM (options available: GNOME, GnomeClassic, iceWM, drak3d) 4. enter the user name 5. try to log in I see briefly how the bullet (selection) switched automatically to GNOME from iceWM and the system log into GNOME instead. The same applies to the rest of the options (GnomeClassic, drak3d), that is, changing session is busted.
you try to use connet with and user without password ? also can you attach: ~/.xsession-errors it works here

I didn't select a password for user when installing Mageia (I have password only for root). So I log in without a password. Also tried with user name 'xguest' and changing the session doesn't work too.

ok so it's a upstream bug in fact. (and a duplicate in our bugzilla) https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=634811 *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 3368 ***

Thanks Manuel. Well, I've put a password for user using Mageia Control Centre and this time it worked. IceWM is quite nice with the oxygen-aya-azul theme. Only the background does not fill the desktop, but there is no easy way to tweak the background. I also tried to log in as root, but I always get the message 'Authentication Failure' and yes, I am very sure that I entered the password correctly. We'll have to wait for upstream, then.
