The man page for iconv is out of date, and does not describe all the features.
Ubuntu 10.4 has a more recent one.

This more fully describes the program, notably including the ability to transliterate, and to skip invalid characters.

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

The iconv man page in Mageia 3 is now the POSIX version of the man page. It still doesn't mention //TRANSLIT or //IGNORE or document the -o option, but it's a big improvement over what's in Mageia 2.

Can we close the bug, or do you wish to keep it open so that we have a better man-page? (in which case it would be good to have it updated upstream first, if possible)

A better man page would be nice, but we don't have the resources to improve the quality of all the man pages we distribute; it should be the responsibility of upstream. Having said, that looking at http://man7.org/linux/man-pages/man1/iconv.1.html shows that upstream has fixed the issue in their 4.00 release; unfortunately, we're only shipping man-pages-3.82 in Cauldron.
