This may be an "impossible" problem to solve, but I will report it anyway. I tried to install Mageia 2 Beta 1 on a "bleeding edge" server system with the Supermicro X9DRI-f motherboard and dual Intel ES-2690 8-core CPUs. This is the "Rolls Royce" of currently-available hardware. The Mageia installer booted from a USB DVD. However, when loading USB drivers I believe it didn't find the driver for the USB chipset on this motherboard and subsequently, the Mageia installer displayed the message "No CDROM found". It's also worth noting that the installer appeared to hang at this point. The keyboard and mouse became unresponsive as soon as I got the "No CRDOM found" pop up message.

We would need lspcidrake -v output (from a livecd if possible) or ouput from "lspci -n" (from any distro) in order to see what should be the driver. We may miss some USB (especially USB 3) host controller driver in drakx/mdk-stage1/usb-resource/update-usb-ids.pl (though that would mean stage2 is unaware of it too). Does it work better if you try another USB port (especially an USB 2 one)?

Could you try new boot.iso from eg: http://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/linux/Mageia/distrib/cauldron/x86_64/install/images/
Hi, I tried booting with that boot.iso disk. I choose "linux" at the boot prompt. The installer loads up to the point where you get a menu asking if you want to install from: NFS Server FTP Serverok HTTP Server XA Server CDROM Hard Disk etc. And then it just freezes solid right there. I am using a USB2 port, by the way. I will update with the output of lspci shortly, as I can run Mandriva 2010.2 on it no problem. I can also boot up with (and use) True Image and Clonezilla, which, as far as I know, are also both running Linux.
Freezing might just be you're using a usb keyboard and we miss a hid kernel module. For that we would also need lsusb output as well as the output of the modules.txt file resulting from "cat /proc/modules" on one of the other linux distribution you tried. Thomas it may be a bug similar to bug #4129 where we missed hid_logitech_dj.ko We miss the following HID drivers in installer: hid hid-axff hid-dr hid-elecom hid-emsff hid-holtekff hid-hyperv hid-lcpower hid-magicmouse hid-multitouch hid-ortek hid-picolcd hid-primax hid-prodikeys hid-roccat hid-roccat-arvo hid-roccat-common hid-roccat-isku hid-roccat-kone hid-roccat-koneplus hid-roccat-kovaplus hid-roccat-pyra hid-speedlink hid-twinhan hid-waltop hid-wiimote hid-zydacron
Here are the outputs you wanted for lspci, lsusb, modules, etc. Let me know if more info is useful. Note: There are various Video I/O cards in this system. Is the ATEN USB device a keyboard or a KVM switch? Can you try latest boot.iso again? eg: from http://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/linux/Mageia/distrib/cauldron/x86_64/install/images/
Sorry, that gives me the same problem. Connected to this motherboard is just a plain Microsoft keyboard and Microsoft mouse. No KVM.
Pascal, Thomas, any idea?

Do you see the same result with the rescue mode? If yes could you try access through serial line?
@ Andy could you please reply to the previous question? @ Thierry I don't threaten to close this report as old after 14 days if he doesn't reply. If you think I should, please say so.

I will try rescue mode today. I will also try with a SATA CDROM, which will rule out any issue with the keyboard drivers and/or mouse drivers. The only reason I was using a USB CDROM was because I didn't have a SATA CDROM, but I have one now. What do you mean "could you try access through serial line"?
It's possible to use a serial line, connected to a serial port instead of a local keybord/mouse/screen See https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Drakx-installer_tips_and_tricks#Using_a_serial_cable_for_the_installation
I have confirmed that it is the keyboard that is dead after bootup. I installed a SATA CDROM and booted from THAT. I was able to type "rescue" at the boot prompt, but when I get to the installation menu where it says "FTP, NFS, etc" the keyboard is dead and I cannot make any selections. So the problem is not USB CDROM. It's that the USB keyboard is unusable by the installation disk.
Can you check your bios setup to see if has an option similar to USB Legacy Support? If it does, ensure it is enabled.

Also can you try latest boot.iso again? eg: from http://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/linux/Mageia/distrib/cauldron/x86_64/install/images/
Hi Thierry, Sorry to say but the latest boot.iso (downloaded April 24 (today) did not work either. I need to tell you that I am able to boot with the Ubuntu 12.04 installer, as well as the Mandriva 2010 CD installer, so I don't think it has anything to do with USB legacy support, as Dave Hodgins suggests. I think Mageia is doing something wrong with the USB drivers that are required for this board. The board is a high-end and very popular Supermicro model. It will be sad if one cannot install Mageia on a system built with this board. Please let me know what else I can do to help you troubleshoot? Would dmesg from Ubuntu be helpful? -- Andy
You could attach the pci.txt file resulting from running: lspci -nk > pci.txt As well as logs from mdv2010. I don't understand how a regression from mdv2010 could only affect your machine. As for mdv2010, did you test it recently? did you test the live CD or the install DVD?
I am able to boot this machine with the mdv2010 installation CD #1. Mdv 2010 had CD versions and DVD installer versions, if I am not mistaken. This is not a Live CD. This is an installation CD. I use the CD version as a "rescue disk". I can run "rescue" and go to console and mount my OS drive, chroot into it, fix the bootloader, etc. Obviously, I can do all this without keyboard or USB DVD issues. Attached are some of the output files you requested. lspci -nk lspci -vvv lsmod

I don't understand. Can you try the mga2 livecd? (from http://www.mageia.org/en/2/) Does it work? If yes what is the output of lsmod on it? Thomas: any idea?
Also does the regular install dvd iso from mga2 beta3 work?
The LIVE CD (Mageia 2 Beta 3) works fine. I will attach all the lspci/dmesg/lsmod files from that here. The Mageia 2 Beta 3 DOES NOT WORK. If I choose "Install Cauldron", I get a "No CDROM found" and keyboard/mouse freeze (image attached. If I choose "Rescue", I get the same "No CDROM found" and keyboard/mouse freeze.

Just to clarify... The Mageia 2 Beta 3 X86_64 DVD Installer DOES NOT WORK. The LiveCD DOES WORK.
blino: any idea?

Hi, This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment. Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2. Thanks :) Cheers, marja
Still valid for Mageia 2 release
Version: Cauldron => 2
As it's installer bug we can't do much about it on Mageia 2.

Can you try Mageia 3 alpha?
Also you forgot to attach the output of "lspcidrake -v" from the livecd (aka not lspci). That would really help as I would know what would see the stage1
(In reply to comment #37) > Can you try Mageia 3 alpha? That would be latest boot.iso from cauldron instead. We fixed a bug in kmod where kernel's modules.order wasn't always enforced. I doubt this could fix this bug but who knows? EHCI detecting is working on machines for a decade now, so I don't understand why it fails on your machine (but it does fail so...)
(lspcidrake also list USB devices) Maybe attaching the input.txt file resulting from running cat /proc/bus/input/devices>input.txt
OK, you've 140 PCI devices and I just found we fails to detect more than 100... It should work if you can try latest boot.iso from: http://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/linux/Mageia/distrib/cauldron/x86_64/install/images/ *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 8320 ***
