Description of problem ======================= If I install ibus and ibus-anthy (Japanese), the daemon will only run when I set my regional parameters as Japanese. Yet I would like to set my regional parameters to French UI and still be able to switch to Japanese input whenever I want. Version-Release number of selected component ============================================= - ibus version 1.3.9 rev 2.mga1 - ibus-anthy vers 1.2.5 rev 1.mga1 Steps to Reproduce =================== (1) Install ibus, ibus-anthy, ibus-gtk, ibus-qt4. (2) Set only the "Japanese - Anthy" in your input method list (tab "Input Method" in Ibus preferences). (3) In "General" tab of the Ibus preference, check or set enable/disable shortcut. (4) Set your regional parameters to Japanese and restart X. Ibus run (small "keyboard looking" icon in the system tray) and you can activate Japanese input whenever wanted by clicking the enabling shortcut. All fine. (5) Set your regional parameters to French. Restart X. Expected Result ================ I want to be able to use my configured input method whichever regional parameters I set. Because a use might be more comfortable with a given UI language but still want to write into foreign languages. Or simply you regularly write in even more than 2 or 3 languages. Actual Result ============= No ibus icon in the system tray when my UI is in French. Hence no Japanese input enabled by the chosen shortcuts. Additional Information ====================== No other lang pair tested. I only know I have the problem for French regional settings + Japanese (anthy) configured in ibus. Note that I tried to run ibus-daemon by hand. It would run (small icon tray showing) but I did not manage to activate my configured Japanese input in a GUI. I did not digg much more for now about why, because if Mageia could make this working as expected to me, I would definitely prefer. :-) Thanks.

Hello, having installed Mageia 2 beta 3 recently on my own computer (I wrote this report from seeing the problem on someone else's computer), I would like to report this is actually not a bug. I checked both on Mageia 1 and 2 beta3: when setting my language to French (in LocaleDrake), if you click "Other countries" (???) on the second page (country selection page), you have access to an "input method" scrolldown, where you can indeed select Ibus (hence for instance writing in Japanese with a French speaking locale). Once ibus selected though, you'll even see the option in the main country window (hidden by default). So that was not a package/configuration bug. Sorry for this. I would still say that's a UI bug (or UI improvement. So a feature request?) because that's definitely not intuitive to have to click "other countries" in order to be able to activate an input method other than the default one. Nor it is intuitive that we find this configuration in the Country page (should be a page on its own). There are still a few issues on Mageia 1, like all Japanese characters are small squares in LibreOffice (though I have Japanese fonts. I can write Japanese in the browser for instance). But I guess this has been fixed somewhere in Mageia 2 because there it works fine. So that's not a problem. Should the severity be changed into enhancement (for UI)?

Better to open a separate issue for that. thanks (and I let you close this bug :) )
Ok. I close this one. I'll open another UI bug/improvement report later. :-)
Oups. I have to write a comment to close!
