Description David Deaderick 2011-03-20 19:14:15 CET
Description of problem: The LibreOffice default horizontal ruler bar unit ("char") and vertical ruler bar unit ("line") can be changed to user-preferred units in the current session; however, both revert to the defaults upon opening a new document or new session.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): LO 3.3.1 (in Mageia Alpha 2 but not in Alpha 1)

How reproducible: Open LibreOffice, change the units of the default ruler bars, close document, re-open document or a new document; or close LibreOffice and re-open. Unit reverts to installation, not user-customized, default.

I recall this bug in an OOo from Mandriva several years ago. It is a very serious, even show-stopping annoyance for a user of LibreOffice and should be fixed prior to release or it is likely to persist to the following release, if (my!) memory serves correctly about the Mandriva experience. By the way, the bug also is in Mandriva Beta 1.

Side note: the improvements between Alpha 1 and Alpha 2 are remarkable. Thank you for all the hard work on Mageia!

Summary: ruler bar units revert to "char" "line" => LibreOffice ruler bar units revert to "char" (horizontal) and "line" (vertical)

1. Source package is libreoffice-3.3.1.2-4.mga1.src.rpm

2. I am able to remove the defaulting to the "char" unit by unchecking "Enable char unit" in Tools --> Options --> LibreOffice Writer --> General. Now it appears to default to Centimeters.

3. There are many more locales and languages installed in this version of LO than I've seen elsewhere. Could that be the problem for a U.S. user wanting "inches" as the default? If I only knew how to remove some of those packages....

You don't say if you've tried setting the rulers to inches in Tools - Options - LibreOffice Writer - View? (You should probably update to 3.3.1.2-7)

Apparently it has been fixed, though the version number now shows 3.3.1.2-3, so a fix by downgrading, I guess. 3.3.2 has been released by the Document Foundation. It's easy enough to download the RPM from DF and install it instead or alongside.

I just installed Alpha 2 again, and the ruler bars are in inches by default. Tools --> Options --> LibreOffice Writer --> General (and View) also shows inches as the unit.

I set my default template, and LO re-opened with the correct unit of measurement. All's well.

Now I'm seeing 3.3.1.2-7 in the grand update now taking place.
