Description Bit Twister 2012-02-27 02:30:23 CET
Description of problem:

# kwrite messages

Connecting to deprecated signal QDBusConnectionInterface::serviceOwnerChanged(QString,QString,QString)

QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.

Causes about a 1 second delay refreshing screen after scrolling events,
numerous flashing screen when picking colors for text when using kwrite in an ssh session across the network LAN.

Sluggish repainting of window when another app covers/uncovers editing window.

Problem is not noticeable in a normal terminal.
More noticeable if ssh on same node. Very noticeable when editing across a LAN.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible: always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. click up a terminal (I am using xterm)
2. ssh $USER@$(hostname --alias)
4. dmesg > dmesg.log
5. kwrite dmesg.log
6. Click Settings top of window
7. Click Configure Editor
8. Click Fonts & Colors
9. Click Normal Text Styles
10. Click one of the color boxes under Normal
11. Click same one again
You should see some flashing/redrawing of screen.
12. Cancel all that and scroll up and down using roller on mouse
    You should see sluggish activity.

My setup:
I am running on Mandriva 2011.0 with Desktop effects disabled.
I ssh into my cauldron beta1 testbed as root.
testbed root has not had kde started.
Both systems default run level is 3.

« Connecting to deprecated signal
QDBusConnectionInterface::serviceOwnerChanged(QString,QString,QString)

QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication.
Application may misbehave. » warning messages are not related with the « repaint » problem wich is probably more a network problem.
I guess that if you try with another app (for example libreoffice) to edit a document over the network you'll get the same issue.
There's also an upstream bug upstream (kde if i'm not wrong here) regarding thoses warning message especially the D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication.

I did run Firefox, and screen repaints and scrolling were as good as local system response.

Yeah, I had anticipated that comment so I created step 2 show it was not a problem between two systems. :)

Also. is does not happen if I boot Mandriva 2011 on same machine as cauldron and play around with kwrite.

libreoffice crashes so I could not verify it.

I did run Firefox, and screen repaints and scrolling were as good as local system response.

Hi,

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

Thanks :)

Cheers,
marja

clean install of Mageia-3-beta4-x86_64-DVD.iso does not have the problem.
