Description Y.LE_NY 2011-03-20 14:50:42 CET
Description of problem:
kmix 3.8 in Mageia Alpha 2 is not well configured by default.
The "Playback devices" and "Captures devices" tabs are missing
and there are nothing in "Playback Stream" and "Capture Stream" tabs.

Can you fix theses problems ?

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kmix 3.8
KDE 4.6.1

How reproducible:
1) I click on sound icon at down right corner of the window and then I click on the mixer button.
2) Now I can show the new kmixer window.
3) In this new window, I have only 2 tabs :
"Playback Stream" and "Capture Stream" with nothing in these 2 tabs.
But the "Playback devices" and "Captures devices" tabs that I have with Kmix 3.6 (KDE 4.4.3) in Mandriva 2010.2 are missing.

In Kmix 3.6 in Mandriva 2010.2 , I have :
* "Internal Audio Analog Stereo" in "Playback devices" tab
* "Internal Audio Analog Stereo" and "CX23880/1/2/3 PCI Video and Audio Decoder [Audio Port] Analog Stereo" in "Captures devices" tab.
* ALSA plugin [plugin-container] : ALSA playback in "Playback Stream" tab.

In mageia 1 Alpha 2 + latest updates, I did the following test :

$ lspcidrake | grep Audio
cx88_alsa : Conexant Systems, Inc.|CX23880/1/2/3 PCI Video and Audio Decoder [Audio Port] [MULTIMEDIA_OTHER] (rev: 05)
cx8800 : Conexant Systems, Inc.|CX23880/1/2/3 PCI Video and Audio Decoder [MULTIMEDIA_VIDEO] (rev: 05)
snd_hda_intel   : Intel Corporation|N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev: 01)

$ alsamixer -c 1
Card:HDA Inntel
Chip: Realtek ALC662 rev1
Item: Master [dB gain: -17,00]

Note -c 0 go to my TV card.

$ aplay /usr/share/sounds/*.wav
Playing WAVE '/usr/share/sounds/KDE-Im-Phone-Ring.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 48000 Hz, Stereo
Playing WAVE '/usr/share/sounds/pop.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz, Mono
--> I can listen/hear the 2 sounds.

@ Dimitrios
Ok I take a look to your link.
Maybe.

I open the kmix 3.8 window.
I click on the icon to add a new tab or window (in french in kmix : Ajouter un affichage)
In the new window with title "Add a tab", I select
"Playback Stream" as the mixer, and I select too "All the controls" option that I want in this new tab.
I click on the OK button and I have the french error message "Impossible d'ajouter un affichage, GUIProfile is invalide", but in Internet, I found that the english original text strings for this error is
"Cannot add view - GUIProfile is invalid."

Any idea ?

A very bad workarround is to delete the kmix files from ~/.kde4/share/config but as i said very bad because you will have to do it on every startup :(

If you try to desactivate the pulseaudio ? (at least until the bug be fixed)

I have a similar problem with Kmix under the Mixer. I have a single channel to adjust and aumix has 4 but when I go back to Mandriva 10.0 I have 8 channels.
I've tried to add the channels like I have done in the past but only have a single channel to select from. Could this be related?

I think this is related to the kmix pulseaudio integration, quit kmix, then try loading it from terminal like this:
KMIX_PULSEAUDIO_DISABLE=1 kmix

After installing Mageia 1 Beta 1, I have no sound.
In kmix, sound cursor is at level 0.

$ alsamixer -c 1
Card:HDA Inntel
Chip: Realtek ALC662 rev1
Item: Master [dB gain: -12,00?]

I need to do :
$ alsamixer -c 1
and increase dB gain from -12.00? to 0.00
to have sound.

With kmix 3.8 in Mageia 1 Alpha 2 , I have :
1) I click on sound icon at down right corner of the window and then I click on
the mixer button.
2) Now I can show the new kmixer window.
3) In this new window, I have only 2 tabs :
"Playback Stream" and "Capture Stream" with nothing in these 2 tabs.
But the "Playback devices" and "Captures devices" tabs that I have with Kmix
3.6 (KDE 4.4.3) in Mandriva 2010.2 are missing.

With kmix 3.8 in Mageia 1 Beta 2 , I have :
1) I click on sound icon at down right corner of the window and then I click on
the mixer button.
2) Now I can show the new kmixer window.
3) In this new window, I have now 4 tabs but nothing in "Capture Stream" tab.
I have too :
* "Internal Audio Analog Stereo" in "Playback devices" tab
* "Internal Audio Analog Stereo" and "CX23880/1/2/3 PCI Video and Audio Decoder
[Audio Port] Analog Stereo" in "Captures devices" tab.
* "Event sounds" and "(LibVLC 1.1.7): audio stream" in "Playback Stream" tab.
