Description Jon Metric 2012-02-26 15:05:31 CET
Description of problem:Skype opens with no problem. Video and Sound work. But no microphone will work. I have tried a jack connected headset and a USB connected camera/mic. In Sound Preferences the input level meter does respond to sounds, but I am also unable to record using Sound Recorder.

This problem started after I did a complete reinstall of Mageia. In the original installation I had no problem.

Hi, maybe you should consider opening an upstream bug.

Assignee: bugsquad => sander.lepik
Source RPM: skype-2.2.0.35-17.mga2.nonfree.noarch.rpm => get-skype

Comment 2 Sander Lepik 2012-03-16 12:28:20 CET
Colin, any ideas?

CC: (none) => mageia

Comment 3 Colin Guthrie 2012-03-16 12:44:07 CET
Can you try making a call with skype, (such that the mic is opened) and then attach the contents of "pacmd ls" as a text file to this bug.

Thanks.

I'm NOT using any Testing or Backports-medias & I used the x86_64 DVD-version of RC to install.

Here's the information that utils_alsa-info.sh gathered from my Desktop-PC: http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=13f989560602f4b870de7a13c5b9787fc687b1ee

I haven't looked if this info is included in that link, but here's result of modinfo:soundcore:

The driver is somewhat old. www.alsa-project.org have released 1.0.25, but according to the test Mageia doesn't have it.
At least not in Core-medias.
Comment 11 Colin Guthrie 2012-05-15 12:30:30 CEST
@Kristoffer: It is very rude to just hijack someones bug and change it to a different product. Please do not do that. Open a new bug instead (but please do make reference to the previous one). The process for solving any problems on different versions is very different and by hijacking the bug it basically means that you are breaking these processes.

The information and details are completely different with the cauldron version. So I will not reply to this bug and will set the version back to mga1 and request that Jon ignore all comments after my previous comment 3.

When you open your new bug for the cauldron, please also attach "pacmd list-sources" both with your mic plugged in and unplugged (assuming it's an external mic, otherwise just attach the full "pacmd ls").

Version: Cauldron => 1

Comment 12 Jon Metric 2012-05-16 03:16:00 CEST
Eventually I was able to solve my problem by turning off PulseAudio. It seems as if it and Skype have issues working together.

Thanks for your suggestions.
Comment 13 Colin Guthrie 2012-05-16 11:14:24 CEST
@Jon, I'm afraid I cannot call this a "Solution" as this breaks many other things that are enabled by using PulseAudio. It's kinda like saying the car's engine now works, provided we only go downhill :p

I'd appreciate very much if you'll try the PulseAudio version in Mageia 2 when it is released (should be soon) and report back your progress. PulseAudio is what we need to make work and I've personally helped the Skype developers on their PulseAudio integration and use this myself, so I know it works fine generally. The problem you have is likely with the way PulseAudio deals with your Microphone on your h/w. It should be a trivial enough fix and there are a few tricks up my sleeve to make it work, but without feedback I am in the dark.

If you do with to provide feedback, even on Mageia 1, I'd still very much appreciate it.

Issue fixed for me.
Comment 16 Sander Lepik 2012-07-06 15:42:08 CEST
Jon, do you still need this bug to be open or can we close it as old?

Whiteboard: (none) => OK

Comment 17 Manuel Hiebel 2012-11-05 16:53:31 CET
This message is a reminder that Mageia 1 is nearing its end of life.
In approximately 25 days from now, Mageia will stop maintaining and issuing
updates for Mageia 1. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX (EOL) if it
remains open with a Mageia 'version' of '1'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to
fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later
Mageia version prior to Mageia 1's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not
be able to fix it before Mageia 1 is end of life. If you would still like to see
this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Mageia,
you are encouraged to click on "Version" and change it against that version
of Mageia.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime,
sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia
release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 18 Manuel Hiebel 2012-12-02 14:32:45 CET
Mageia 1 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on ''1st December''. Mageia 1 is no
longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or
bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Mageia
please feel free to click on "Version" change it against that version of Mageia and reopen this bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
