Description Jeffrey Laramie 2012-02-24 15:15:56 CET
Description of problem:

If you try to configure forwarding using MCC -> Networking & Internet -> Share the Internet connection with local machines, when shorewall is disabled the dialog complains that "No ethernet network adapter configured for LAN has been detected on your system". It seems that this is a shorewall setting so you must enable at least one port with shorewall to enable forwarding. I use a custom iptables script so shorewall is not enabled and forwarding can't be set (though MCC).

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open the "Setup your personal firewall" dialog.

2. Select "Everything(no firewall)" then "Ok".

3. Open the "Share the Internet connection with other local machines" dialog.

4. Select "Next".

5. Dialog gives an error message that "No ethernet network adapter configured for LAN has been detected on your system".

Hi,

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

Thanks :)

Cheers,
marja

Valid for mageia 2. From Bug 5596,
Shorewall must be enabled, and must not have the lan interface in
/etc/shorewall/interfaces

Any plan to fix it ?
In comment #4 and #5 of Bug 5596, it was said that fixing it could be as simple as adding a more explicit message to drakgw, saying that firewall has to be enabled on - and only on - the internet interface to let Internet Connection Sharing be configurable.
Thanks for taking care of it.

This message is a reminder that Mageia 2 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately one month from now Mageia will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Mageia 2. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX (EOL) if it remains open with a Mageia 'version' of '2'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Mageia version prior to Mageia 2's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Mageia 2 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.

Changing version to Mageia 3, as it's still valid.

Version: 2 => 3

Comment 7 Ole Reier Ulland 2014-08-05 16:27:23 CEST
I am using Mageia 4.1 and the bug is still here. I do not see any way for me to use my computer as a gateway. To comment out lines about the ethernet card in /etc/shorewall/interfaces and restart the services shorewall and shorewall6 did not help any. If there is a way to fix this problem temporarily, please write it here. I do not understand how this bug can be stamped minor when it makes it impossible to use the computer as a gateway, or am I missing something?

Changed title to make it clear that enabling shorewall on more than one interface causes the same problem. I've now got caught out by this twice (yes, I'm forgetful) so strongly support the clarified message as the minimum fix needed.

Mageia 4 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-09-19. It is is no longer
maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug
fix updates.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to
fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later
Mageia version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we weren't
able to fix it before Mageia 4's end of life. If you are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and
change it against that version of Mageia. If it's valid in several versions,
select the highest and add MGAxTOO in whiteboard for each other valid release.
Example: it's valid in cauldron and Mageia 5, set to cauldron and add MGA5TOO.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime,
sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia
release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 11 Marja Van Waes 2015-10-27 06:58:51 CET
As announced over a month ago, Mageia 4 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-09-19. It is is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates.

This issue may have been fixed in a later Mageia release, so, if you still see it and didn't already do so: please upgrade to Mageia 5 (or, if you read this much later than this is written: make sure you run a currently maintained Mageia version)

If you are able to reproduce it against a maintained version of Mageia, you are encouraged to
1. reopen this bug report, by changing the "Status" from "RESOLVED - OLD" to "REOPENED"
2. click on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia. If you know it's valid in several versions, select the highest and add MGAxTOO in whiteboard for each other valid release.
Example: it's valid in cauldron and Mageia 5, set to cauldron and add MGA5TOO.
3. give as much relevant information as possible. If you're not an experienced bug reporter and have some time: please read this page:
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/How_to_report_a_bug_properly

If you see a similar issue, but are _not_sure_ it is the same, with the same cause, then please file a new bug report and mention this one in it (please include the bug number, too).
