Tried another install (see #4558): personalized desktop, i.e. all workstations, no servers, all WM's but now without KDE: also hangs at 23 minutes before completion of packages installation.
Confirming, same problem on installing when choosing all des and lots of other stuff (multimedia, games,...)

Are you using an usb key or a dvd ? also did you see something in the tty 2 or 3 with pstree ?
The original post of mine (comment #4) was using an usb stick on real hardware. Sorry I didn't use pstree then. The second one (comment #9) was using kvm and the virtual cdrom drive. I tried to switch to a tty but don't know how to do it in the vm.
Mine was form DVD with same probs.
Created attachment 1590 [details] tar archive of the log files from /root/drakx/ Attached are the log files from a new "hanging" during package installation. Installation was done in a kvm virtual machine using the i586 iso as cdrom device. "qemu-kvm -m 1024 -hda disk.img -cdrom Mageia-2-beta1-i586-DVD.iso -boot d"

I'm uploading a new installer that will log more stuff in order to debug what's happenning.

Created attachment 1598 [details] xz tarred content of /root/drakx When installing 32 bits from the debug iso: personalized selection (all workstations, all DE's, no servers), install hangs at 40 m. before the end of packages installation. Resulting logs attached.
But when only KDE is selected, installation does complete.

What's the df output? Maybe too much packages were choosen?
I don't think so. The last time the installation hung here, I used the default settings and just did replace kde by lxde. I did another installation, choosing every category available (which means quite a lot more) on the sam vm and it worked.

Can you check disk space like asked?

With the first iso, where I also had the hang, Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda4 20G 3.3G 16G 18% /var/mnt/magtest When I redid the install with the latest iso, it worked.
