Description excel1223 excel1223 2012-02-11 20:39:29 CET
Downloaded mageia-dvd-1-x86_64.iso (valstar) and installed on AMD Turion X2-64 machine but 586 compiler packages were installed specifically gcc and gcc-c++ . There was an update/upgrade done on initial install so I don't know if the problem was the initial distribution or the update/upgrade.

It took me a little while to get the correct gcc arch(x86_64) installed as it did not immediately show up on the list. The mirror for the core packages was not automatically selected: I had assumed that it would have been selected automatically, but the core 32 bit mirrors were automatically selected. Seems it should be the other way on an x86_64 distribution.

Seems minor but a new user might be stymied.
