Description of problem: Installing Mageia on a laptop with a synaptics touchpad and separate mouse, the kernel option above is needed otherwise the mouse doesn't work, as per http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/index.php?title=Docs/Hardware&action=edit§ion=31 (both in installation and when booting). However one has to find it out for oneself, for example at above URL. It would be more userfriendly if this option was provided in the installation (and preferably kept when installing bootloader). Ideally it should also be explained why it is needed at the time the option is offered, of course. I wouldn't call it a debug option, because I need it on my laptop always. Reproducible: Present in various Mandriva versions and Mageia Alpha1 and Alpha2. Just install without it and one misses the mouse. Hardware used: Compaq Evo N1020v. cf.: https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=47252 Reproducible: Steps to Reproduce:
Source RPM: gfxboot => mageia-gfxboot-theme
Same as before in mdv: We don't know when to put that option...

When touchpad plus mouse are detected !? Or offer the option when a mouse is detected on a laptop?
@ Dick Just to be sure: Did anything improve since 2011-04-04)?

No I don't think so. AFAIK the installer hasn't changed. So it should still be valid. But I can't verify at the moment, as my laptop died.

Well, would it be technically possible to have a detection for laptop + external mouse? If so, then I would push for having this enabled - an option could be added when the mouse if first used in the installer if that would help?
Would having a addition in the release notes be of use, because as is stated on the mdv bug, this case isn't the most common.
(In reply to comment #8) > Would having a addition in the release notes be of use, because as is stated on > the mdv bug, this case isn't the most common. If it can't be solved, than, IMHO, it should be well documented. The release notes seem a good place to me.
For Sandy Bridge laptop it does not apply. For Compaq Evo N1020v - if any survive - I'm guessing it would help.
Anyone reopen if you feel the need.
