Description of problem: My HP Pavilion dv6-3102sg laptop is equiped with a touchpad that integrates the left and right click buttons in the normal "move finger to move mouse area". Clicking the left button works fine, but clicking the right button is taken as left click as well. Searching on the internet lead me to quite some forum threads like: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1388164&page=2 It seems, that the problem appears on different HP note- and netbooks equiped with this or a similiar touchpad. The thread above holds a patch to solve the problem: https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/67335/ How reproducible: Always with all kernels available in the repositories since Alpha 1 Reproducible: Steps to Reproduce:
Source RPM: (none) => kernel-desktop
i tried to apply the patch to 2.6.38 - the files changed since patch generation, so I tried to merge manually. However I "make oldconfig && make && make install_modules install" and started the newly created kernel - everything works as before - no more no less. Perhaps the patch is already invalid again? Anyone another idea, how to get the right click button working as it should?

Synaptics clickpad support is in upstream kernel since 2010-04-20 http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux%2Fkernel%2Fgit%2Ftorvalds%2Flinux-2.6.git&a=search&h=HEAD&st=commit&s=clickpad And the last fixes to it is now in the 2.6.38 series kernel available on the mirrors, please try it out
does not work for me. I already compiled (unpatched) 2.6.38 kernel and tried it. The right mouse button still does not work.
any news here? It still does not work, I already learned how to right click with two fingers and it's now the common way for me to righ click... however sooner or alter someone elese will face this problem, so we should try to fix it, shouldn't we?
I opened an upstream bug report at: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41252 Interestingly my touchpad works on OpenSUSE 11.4 with kernel 2.6.37.6 - after updating to kernel 3.0 it behaves there as it does on Mageia, so it seems to be a regression in the kernel.
Okay, got some progress about this bug: the kernel developers took a look into the problem and found the base of the problem in the synaptics driver of xorg - therefor I reposted their achievement on the xorg bugtracker: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=38303 The solution can hopefully be found with help of the original SuSe patch + the suggested change by Dmitry Torokhov on the kernel bugtracker. Btw.: the bug for SuSe can be found at https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=698412

If for workflow reasons you can't do that, then please put OK on the whiteboard instead.

Pinging, because nothing has happened with this report for more than 3 months, it still has the status NEW or REOPENED. Did anyone see whether it was fixed upstream?
No idea about upstream, but with recent Cauldron the problem is still existing. Right clicks are still not handled (or at least not correctly)
I set this to platform "all" as in the mean time I reinstalled mageia as i586 and I face the same problem on i586...

Hi, This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment. Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2. Thanks :) Cheers, marja

Confirmed. This bug is (unfortunally) still valid for Mageia 2 and thus for Cauldron, once it reopens.

An rerechecked. Still valid for current cauldron. when checking https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=38303 the bug is marked as fixed for more than 6 month. Is Mageias xorg touchpad driver up to date?

Is Mageias xorg touchpad driver up to date? Thx for the feedback, Peter :-D It is not needed to put cauldrontoo on the whiteboard, because this bug is already filed against cauldron. ;) We set "Version:" to the highest version for which a bug is valid, and put MGA*TOO on the whiteboard for each of the lower versions the bug is valid for.

I see... sorry :)
Still valid? Leave open?

No response so assumed fixed upstream. Please reopen if not the case.
