And why exactly udev needs usbutils?
There's no reason as far as I can see

is udev not the replacement of hal ?

as you can see, the utils was not installed, so we need a require somewhere (but yes not necessarily in udev, sorry
Comment 3 Colin Guthrie 2012-01-28 17:26:06 CET
I don't see any udev rules that require any of the binaries in usbutils package. What fails when this package is not installed? Like Thierry, I don't specifically see the need for usbutils. If you could explain what is actually broken, we can maybe try and work out what the solution is.

Nothing really about udev itself.

install cauldron (in my cause, with X and windowmaker)

if want to use lsusb, it does not works.
it should not work as default ?

and according to urpmf & rpm -qa; mindi-busybox, usbutils zsh is not installed.

(yes the require is maybe not in udev but in another package ? I have only guess it could be udev, since it's the replacement of hal)

I think it's just a matter of remembering when we ask people to
run the lsusb command, to provide info for a bug report, to tell
them to install usbutils if they haven't already.
