Hi, thanks for reporting this bug.

Can you paste the output of lspcidrake -v ?

you can also get more info about the errors with looking at syslog

tail -f /var/log/message and after, try to connect in the wlan.

Good evening,

I've just read about the problem. Key informtion is IMHO in following lines:

  Jan 16 18:19:27 localhost drakconnect[5470]: running: /bin/rpm -q --qf %{name}#012 wireless-tools
  Jan 16 18:19:30 localhost drakconnect[5470]: running: dmidecode
Jan 16 18:19:30 localhost drakconnect[5470]: Found settings for driver "iwl3945" in category "network::connection::wireless"
Jan 16 18:19:30 localhost drakconnect[5470]: No kernel_module package for module "iwl3945" is required, skipping
Jan 16 18:19:30 localhost drakconnect[5470]: No tools package for module "iwl3945" is required, skipping
Jan 16 18:19:30 localhost drakconnect[5470]: Required firmware package for module "iwl3945" is already installed, skipping
  Jan 16 18:19:30 localhost drakconnect[5470]: Loading module iwl3945
Jan 16 18:19:31 localhost drakconnect[5470]: Settings for driver "iwl3945" applied
  Jan 16 18:19:31 localhost kernel: iwl3945 0000:0c:00.0: loaded firmware version 15.32.2.9
Jan 16 18:19:32 localhost kernel: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready

After initialisation of the device there must be a link "over the air". Typically iw*-tools are showing WLAN-parameters from device and/or
available networks (SSID's). Dhcp-client may get desired information after connecting to your WLAN.

Possible causes:

- no WLAN configured (SSID/WPA PSK)(check at the end of /etc/wpasupplicant.conf)
- WLAN hidden, SSID not visible (change WLAN router config option, no security risk)
- Country/locale-specific information not available (package crda*.rpm, I don't know defaults) or not configured.
- WLAN-router is sending on radio channels not reachable with current crda settings (check /etc/sysconfig/network on mga).
E.g. USA has missing channels 12/13, which are allowed in Germany. Israel is very restricted.
- switching wireless on/off with button is sometimes not possible. switch it on before boot

I won't beleave in real hardware or driver errors.

Good luck,

juergen

Hi,

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

Thanks :)

Cheers,

Hello,

I traveled with the laptop and I discovered that with Mageia 2 the wifi was working if the signal was strong, stronger than for Mageia 1. So, very often, the wifi was working with Mageia 1 and not with Mageia 2.

Hope this help.

Typically, if the signal is strong enough to see the SSID, it's strong enough to connect. It might disconnect and reconnect if the signal strength drops too low.

In the log fragment you posted, you didn't go far enough. It shows loading the driver, the usual message from the kernel driver about wlan0 not being ready, and then it shows drakconnect writing the ifcfg file and issuing ifup. The ifup is what should actually do the connect, but the output cuts off before we see any messages from ifup as to whether it connects or has a problem.
