Description of problem: It happens when there is several workspaces open (more than two) and Firefox is the only application running on a single workspace.  


Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):


How reproducible: constantly on a single box


Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Firefox 
2. Open different application on a different workspace
3. Switch to workspace where Firefox is running
4. Close Firefox.

Strange bug :)

added the gnome guys as I don't know how work gnome-shell :/

It looks like gnome-shell is designed to do so: closing the only running application on workspace closes workspace as well and ask(suggest?) what you want to start doing now. 

Just personal opinion.

Btw, the same story with single gnome-terminal on second workspace.

There was a discussion on gnome-shell mailing list - http://osdir.com/ml/gnome-shell-list/2011-08/msg00147.html - (see Dynamic Workspaces - Proposal 08-21).

It didn't get much attention.

The single bug - https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=663984 (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=663984) clearly shows the status of the issue.
