Description Frank Petrucci 2011-12-29 17:12:18 CET
Description of problem: From time to time net_applet consumes a ridiculous amount of memory - currently 416MB of RAM. After killing the app and a restart it's down to 94MB (still quite high usage for a little applet...).

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): from current cauldron

How reproducible: Not sure what causes this behaviour or how to reproduce it. Seems to happen rather randomly.

Hi, thanks for reporting this bug.

Maybe a duplicate or related to bug 2775 or bug 2600 ?
Comment 2 Frank Petrucci 2011-12-29 17:48:43 CET
Hi, after checking the other two bugs I'm sure it's not a duplicate of one of those. Mine is specifically with the net_applet, the other are about a general X problem and the update applet (I'm not using the update applet).

Btw, is there another program I could use instead of the net_applet. I was using Mandriva 2011 lately, and there's another program running for (W)-Lan stuff - but the name escapes me... :( Liked that one better anyway.

ok, networkmanager and nm-applet ?

I don't know who to see what take memory in a soft.
Blino I'am sure you know :)

Since installing beta 1 of Mageia 2, I seem to have the same problem. First I get repeated messages (in a popup) complaining about an incorrect password. After that, nm-applet starts consuming all the memory in my machine bringing the poor little netbook to its knees.

Not sure if this matches Frank's observations or if it is a seperate issue. This is with the Gnome classic interface. AFAIK I've not done anything exotic yet with this install.

It happens to me every day around lunch time for the past few days now. So, it might be something on cron.

Hi,

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

Thanks :)

Cheers,
marja

Hi there,

I'm afraid I cannot give more information on this, as I've stopped using the applet and switched over to knetworkmanager(?), after I've also been unable to get my openvpn connection set up with the applet.

Sorry, but this bug saw no action since more than 2 yrs ago.
No cauldron package has stayed the same since then.

Closing as OLD

Please reopen if this report is still valid for _current_ cauldron and/or fully
updated Mageia 4

Still valid according to me. I have to close net_applet on old computers with very little RAM.

While I do the same for my toy old systems, we can't say that using 30MB of RAM is too much as of today's computers. Let's only fix actual bugs.
