Description of problem: I have mageia 1 plus upogrades as installer calls them, on a Lenovo W520 laptop, on a SanDisk Cruzer Flash Drive. Using the printer installer\manager from within Mageia's configuration center, I tried to search for my Epson Workforce 30 printer. Unfortunately, at boot Mageia had tried to set up the printer and failed with an error 6. Either printer and\or the USB port the printer was plugged in was hung from the mis-configuration error. The following may relate to what follows: Mageia does not install cups-gutenprint until AFTER printer finding by searching for printer, so of course it had no drivers or task handler for my Epson when it tried to boot first time. The printer was on and plugged into USB port of the W520. Therefore, I tried something that Epson used to have people do with Windows 98 SE drivers - a simple hotplug recycle of printer and port by unplugging computer end of USB cable to printer and then plugging it back in while searching for a printer again. This worked, printer was found, and drivers and dependency packages were installed and they now work - Epson Task handler was also installed. Printer now works, and with a driver, printer set up right, so driver got registered right. Bug: Order of install is wrong, if I have to put up with a useless hplip set (have no HP Printerss at all), then others should have a default installed cups-gutenprint set to live with. HP printers are expensive to own and maintain, many buy fast inkjets, and not many are in the CUPS sans gutenprint driver set. So, since not most of your customers now have expensive HPs, the gutenprint set should be installed for the rest (majority) of us. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Unknown, this is a multi-component AND installer order multi-bug set report. How reproducible: See above with any printer requiring cups-gutenprint and that is USB attached to computer during install and reboot first time and have it on during those times. Steps to Reproduce: N\A, I walked you through how above, one basic step starts the mess going, and I told you my work-around. BTW, this computer does NOT power down its USB ports, unless hibernating or suspending.

This message is a reminder that Mageia 1 is nearing its end of life. In approximately 25 days from now, Mageia will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Mageia 1. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX (EOL) if it remains open with a Mageia 'version' of '1'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Mageia version prior to Mageia 1's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Mageia 1 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. -- Mageia Bugsquad
