Description salim salim 2011-12-27 14:47:54 CET
as we know .... our distro developers decided to choose oxygen instead of ia-or

theme .... and this is greet .... but when they throw ia-ora they throw it with

all of its stuff ... and this is a big misstake because all ia-ora arn't that

bad ... just like its sound theme ... and the important thing in here is

ia-ora color scheme which is the most important thing that make

mandriva and mageia have a unique look ......

*******

so ... i want to ask a favor from our distro developers

can they forked a color scheme from ia-ora-steel & ia-ora-night

because in this way ...... there is two advantage of this solution

1st / oxygen is much better look with it

2nd / mageia will have a unique look between all distros which using oxygen as a

default theme

i already make a fork from ia-ora-steel you can find it here

http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/forked-ia-ora-steel?content=147817&PHPSESSID=a14a6756396a26d835f6a72688c3ae96

That's *your* opinion, not a fact.

Personally I hate all of those blueish-like iaora color schemes and I won't work on that. I think the oxygen color scheme is way better, more professional and I'm grateful that iaora was dropped completely, I always thought it was really ugly. For me, those blueish theme colors make the desktop look like it is for kids and it doesn't look professional.

and this one .... is not fact

i am here to talking about oxygen not the whole desktop

and what is the kind of professional to make your desktop in grey color ......

when i see it i think that someone take me back from future to 1960 to look to

a black & white tv

That's why I said *personally*, I was stating *my* own opinion, not a fact.

The oxygen color scheme affects the whole desktop.

As I said, this is a pure personal preference, for me it only remains me of a two year old child bedroom, not a desktop environment you would like to work in.

Anyway, the first step would be for you to post a patch modifying the default oxygen theme if you at least want this feature to be considered. And at the end this a decision of the artwork team, but I vote against it.

aren't we going get rid from the ugly oxygen color scheme

==============

Mr.Max and your team

what do you think
Comment 6 Donald 2012-01-13 11:49:29 CET
Well, I speak for myself here, and as a representitive of Herr. Thorsten's team :),

I imagine that as the new artwork for mga 2 comes into effect, a colour scheme will be made, so, by all means give us some idea's.

Comment 7 salim salim 2012-01-13 12:08:05 CET
as i said before ia-ora color schemeis more perfect choice for the oxygen style

not that oxygen color scheme

so i sugget to artwork-team to use ia-ora color scheme instead of ugly oxygen

color scheme
Comment 8 Thorsten vanLil 2012-01-13 13:38:41 CET
Well, we have chosen a special color platte and as far as I can see, the ia-ora color theme is using very similar color (similar enough).

From my pov, we can use oxygen window decoration and ia-ora color theme. This is also my preferred setting, but it's of course subjective.

((( Well, we have chosen a special color platte )))

if the artwork team has chosen the color scheme before

why didnt they share it with the users
Comment 10 Juan Luis Baptiste 2012-01-13 22:58:46 CET
As Thorsten said, this is completely personal and subjective opinion. For me iaora colors are really ugly and should not be used. Current oxygen colors are far better and give the desktop a more professional look, IMO.

For some reason oxygen is the default in KDE and others distros too, like OpenSUSE, Fedora, Kubuntu, and PCLinuxOS. I haven't seen the first product, open source or commercial that uses that blueish color palette and that is for some reason: it doesn't look professional, it looks old and more oriented for children, IMO.

Also there has been a lot of nonconformity from Mandriva users with iaora theme since a long time, see for example this post:

http://forum.mandriva.com/en/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=99370&hilit=iaora+ugly

Even on our own forums most of the people manifest not liking it, there's even a poll where the majority wants to see it removed and the minority likes it:

https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=203&start=25

Also IMO, this is a choice that shouldn't be taken by a few but the opinion of users should be taken into consideration. As you saw in the previous link to the poll, the majority of Mageia users DON'T like iaora and prefer oxygen over it.

I hope the art team hasn't made up their mind on this as I think that iaora color theme is a bad choice. The only thing I see good on changing the default color scheme of oxygen is in going for a more personal look that differentiate us from other distros, but choosing the wrong colors can do more harm than good.
Comment 11 salim salim 2012-01-14 02:10:33 CET
not just you have links to support your thought

i do have this thing too ...... look at here

http://forum.mandriva.com/en/viewtopic.php?f=86&t=133851&start=25

beside ... in our forums there a lot of peoples choose to keep it as alternative

without any dependencies

that mean keep it and all of its stuff including its color scheme

not as you think

=======

IMO ..... oxygen really really ugly .... and it has more more solid and Non alive

look ((if you understand what i mean ))

just like MAC there is no such life in it .... only the ugly look

and not proffessional
Comment 12 Juan Luis Baptiste 2012-01-14 06:47:55 CET
Well, for what I can see on that thread, users are proposing other themes and combinations of colors not iaora. Just you are proposing the iaora blue theme, with little backup from other users.

Salim, can you just change the color theme to what you like instead of trying to force everyone to use what you like ? from your comments here and on the thread you posted you are expecting on devs on agreeing with you no matter what as if they don't, they would be hurting users feelings, which clearly is not true.

The default Mageia theme should be something more conservative, as we all know, there are lots of different tastes and is going to be impossible to agree in one theme that is liked by all users. IMO, the default oxygen theme with the default color palette is that conservative theme that can please most of the users, it also looks good and professional, there's a reason why it has been the default KDE theme since many years with improvements in each version and many other versions also use it. If the idea is to bring something different to the desktop that can differentiate us from other distros I think a good wallpaper is more important and achieves that goal much clearly than a color scheme for the desktop.

Any user is able to change the theme to whatever one they like the most after installation, as salim can do it too. We can package more themes to give users more choice if needed, post installation.

I also want to ask the art team to have in mind the opinion of Mageia users, I know that you know what you are doing but it doesn't hurt to know the opinion of whom are going to use what you choose. The poll I found on the forums is the closest thing to knowing the opinion of our users on what they would like to see in the next version, but maybe a more official poll would be a good idea.

Also I think this bug should be closed, is pointless at this time. This discussion should be taken on the forums so we can gather the opinion of other users, not just one trying to impose his way.

((( Salim, can you just change the color theme to what you like instead of trying
to force everyone to use what you like ? )))

i am not forcing anyone here

if you see that i was forcing anyone then how about you

you did here just like what i did

you tried also to force mageia users to use the kde own color scheme

and tried to use the professional look as an excuse for it

====

while i said lets use mandriva own color scheme but you didnt like it

==============

well .... i used all my time here .... to explain it to the team

and not me or you or anyone for his own opinion will decide the which appearance is

the better choice for mageia

we are just two drops of water in mageia users ocean

and they are whom will decide the future for mageia

I do love the Ia Ora theme colors (especially the yellow version).
Oxygen is beautiful too (when it doesn't crash :-)).

But how can you put "delete forked one and reupload the real one which created by mandriva team" together with "License: Creative Commons by-nc-sa"

You just don't have the right to change the license since you're not the original author.

Hi,

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

Thanks :)

Cheers,
marja
