Description of problem: Boot the Gnome x64 live iso of Mageia 2 alpha1, expect to be logged in to gnome. But there is no gnome-shell, and all you get of gnome is gdm and the gnome background. But what you get as desktop is icewm (or something similar) The i586 iso boots into gnome-shell /gnome3, so the problem is limited to the 64bit live iso. And that is of course a major issue (that there is no gnome on the iso is less critical than the contents of the 32bit and 64bit isos being different, this indicates a problem in the iso creation script, or a lack thereof)

64-bit Mageia2-alpha1-Gnome-liveCD may boot to Gnome classic (failback mode?) or IceWM on different boxes.

This has nothing to do with fallback. gnome-shell is not even included on the CD-ROM, and the machine here is perfectly capable of running Gnome3 in "fancy"/real mode. Are you saying that you have seen Gnome running with the 64bit iso on any machine?
Should be fixed with the alpha 2, gnome-shell is in the .lst (but I have not "really tested") Feel free to reopen.
