Mageia Mageia-2-alpha1-i586-DVD updated 28 Nov 11 Open Cheese without Webcam connected to USB port. Cheese reports "No device found". Close Cheese. Connect generic webcam to USB port, open Cheese, Cheese opens with blank screen and nothing functions. I suspect that the Webcam is not being mounted in the correctly. Should occur with all webcams as the webcam "driver" has been part of the kernel for a couple years. My test webcam works fine with Mageia 1 and Mandriva 2010.2 on the same platform. Test system is a swapable modular hard drive system. I see /dev/video0 is mounting when the webcam is plugging in. Then goes away when webcam is disconnected. It does not seem to work as a Flash video camera either. May be related to Bug 3242.
does it work with another apps ?
(In reply to comment #1) > does it work with another apps ? I've tried a site that uses Flash cam and that does not work either. I don't run Skype but I suggest that does not work either.
Confirmed: I have 3 webcams, 1 external via USB, 2 built-in in my laptop and netbook. Neither of them works with Mageia 2 Alpha1. The built-in webcams both work with Mageia 1, though. The external webcam does not work with Mageia at all but used to work with Mandriva 2010.2

Sorry, additional: Webcam tested with cheese, Skype, Google & Ekiga. Always the same result
I have the same problem with my laptop (it worked with Mageia 1)

Just run gstreamer-properties, test video input, and check the error message. This is likely the same problem as #3529.

Maybe fixed with next kernel: http://svnweb.mageia.org/packages?view=revision&revision=174077
