is system-printer-config ?

if yes can you provide the backtrace of :

ps aux | grep system-config-printer

( to see if the applet is started, as this is the part that have the dbus detection part )

Very similar problems with Mageia2 Alpha2.
Unable to detect a local HP Photosmart and a remote Laserjet 1200.

i think i know why this was a udev issue.

can you install acl, unplug your printer and plug it again ?
Comment 5 Serge Moreau 2011-12-18 13:55:29 CET

and what is displayed in /var/log/messages when you plug the printer ?
Comment 7 Serge Moreau 2011-12-18 14:22:12 CET
Local printer now detected, after reboot ?
still unable to find my remote printer either on a cups server or on the gateway.

My HP 5510 All-in-one printer still won't set up

It appears that all of the necessary files
are installed from MCC -> Hardware -> Configure printing and scanning

The 5510 printer/scanner/fax is indeed detected
by the HP Device Manager.

The following is displayed when I attempt to
print a test page from the HP Device Manager:

HPLIP Device Stats

officejet_5500
Device communication error:tmpwPNZGG
(wilcal/1)

Interestingly enough the scanner side of the 5510
works just fine. The following is installed, sees
the 5510 scanner and works just fine:

xsane
xsane-gimp

Would this be part of this bug or should I
start another?

What about the already requested output? Is your cauldron up-to-date, acl package installed, system-config-printer running and what hplip packages are installed (rpm -qa | grep hplip) and what happens if you print a test page from cups (test page, not the "self test page")

> What about the already requested output?

I'm not quite understanding that. There was no
output to the printer but the HP Device Manager
showed three jobs ready to print. I then turned
off the Cauldron test platform and went to the
store. Read on.

> Is your cauldron up-to-date

Yes, I update my local repo from mirrors.kernel.org
several times a day and every time I do any kind
of testing on cauldron.

> acl package installed

Yes, the MCC Software Management indicates that
acl in indeed installed.

> system-config-printer

That all went in at install

> what hplip packages are installed

[wilcal@localhost ~]$ rpm -qa | grep hplip
hplip-model-data-3.11.12-1.mga2
hplip-gui-3.11.12-1.mga2
hplip-hpijs-3.11.12-1.mga2
hplip-3.11.12-1.mga2
hplip-hpijs-ppds-3.11.12-1.mga2

> and what happens if you print a test page from cups

Hold the phone...so I just turned all this
back on to test this and everything that
was in the print buffer printed just fine.
I just successfully printed this message
from Gedit. And I was just able to print
a document from Libre Office Writer.

So the cold reboot after the install got it
all to work. Lemme try that again.......
Yep, prints. So after you do the install of
the HP stuff ya gotta reboot the system
to kick start it all. Never had to do that
before.

FWIW

MCC -> System -> Manage System Services -> cups
shows stopped and checked to start On boot.
Ticking the "Start" button says restarting cups
but indicates still stopped. Seems to have not
effected the ability to print. I always print
from the workstation that the printer is connected
too.

I donno??? Your call on this one if this is ok
operation. Seems whenever I installed the HP
and printer stuff on Mandriva it all started
to work right away without having to reboot.

Trying to ping 41 bug reports in one move, because nothing has happened with them for more than 3 months, they still have the status NEW or REOPENED, there is no "OK" on the Whiteboard and severity and priority are "normal" or higher.

Is this one still valid for Mageia 2 rc?

If it is and you're the assignee, please set status to ASSIGNED if you think this bug was assigned correctly. If for work flow reasons you can't do that, then please put OK on the whiteboard instead.
If it wasn't assigned correctly, please assign back to Bug Squad and explain.

I am good to go with my HP USB All-In-One printer on Mageia 2 ( Cauldron ).
This Bug Report is not valid for me for Mageia 2 RC.
