Description Juergen Harms 2011-11-27 10:42:29 CET
Description of problem:

The colours of the text and the background of the kde titlebar do not correspond to what is specified in the KDE System settings (Application Appearance): for instance, in galaxy the default active titlebar color is some kind of blue, but the display is dim white (it appears that the titlebar background is painted with the same colour as the window background) - similar problem for the inactive titlebar, both background and text colours.

I am working with galaxy, but the problem also appears with other styles
Running alpha 1, updates installed up to now (27.11 10h30)

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kdebase4-runtime-4.7.3-2.mga2 (a guess)

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. run a user with desktop = kde
2. display some windows
3. compare titlebar colours effectively shown to what the settings selected in
the KDE system settings (Application Appearance -> Color -> Color)

This is annoying, because the effectively shown titlebar background is the same colour is the window background, and the window having the focus there for does not stand out sufficiently visible.

Pinging, because nothing has happened with this report for more than 3 months, it still has the status NEW or REOPENED.

I'm not sure I understand this bug report. Is it the same as what bug 3871 is about?

Thank you for pinging: this bug is really very annoying in everyday usage - see the opinions expressed in 3871. Sorry if I made my report too short and if it is not clear.

3871 vs 3493
------------
Same background, but different issues:

3871 essentially says: kde titlebars are ugly, please change KDE (and that triggered a long discussion whether that is a good thing to do). I did not realise that this bugzilla report exists, I will add a comment.

3493 essentially says: the mechanisms of setting up the titlebars colors dont work, please fix that bug (once the bug is fixed, the argument of 3871 will probably go away automatically).

Appendix to bug description
---------------------------
More details on my bug description (developping point 3 of "how to reproduce").

Do the following steps

Kde control center
-> Application Appearance (leave default settings as offered, i.e Oxygen)
-> Colors (leave settings as offered)
-> Colors
-> Common Colors tab
"Active titlebar" is offered as #30AEE8 ( light blue, which already does not
correspond to the color effectively displayed in titlebars: grey #E0DFDE)

Select a new color, say darkblue #0000CD and hit OK
The new color appears in the color box in the right-hand column

    Hit OK
The colors of the titlebars remain gray (and remain so even when
        KDE is restarted)

Note: if the color setting sequence described above is immediately done a second time, the orginal color #30AEE8 is displayed in the righthand-side box, as if the preceding modification had never happened.

This problem is not restricted to the color of "active titlebar", I also tried with "active titlebar text" - again, whatever you configure is immediately lost.

I also tried with another widget style: Motif - same problem. So, the problem appears not to be specific to oxygen. And, all these steps have been verified on a new user (resp. after deleting the .kde4 directory).

Something appears to be fundamentally wrong with the configuration mechanisms in KDE CC.

In case that this is a clear upstream problem ( I am not 100% sure), the standard procedure/reply is: please file a bug report upstream - that is correct, but not efficient. My statistics are starting to become significant: bugs from unknown "once-only" individuals have no chance. I think this kind of bug needs to be tagged by the interest of the "Mageia distro".

The configurations options for window decoration (titlebar) are mainly available in Workspace Appearance / Window Decorations / Configure Decoration.
For oxygen, you should enable "Outline active window title" in Fine Tuning tab (cf. screenshot in attachment).

Comment 6 Juergen Harms 2012-03-01 21:51:23 CET
Thank you, that solves the problem (and is new since kde 4.6, not easy to "discover").

This bug can be closed
Comment 7 Luc Menut 2012-03-01 22:08:22 CET
Ok, so closing.
